Position: Social Worker
Department: Community Mental Health And Addictions
The Hospital to Home (H2H) Mental Health Program at the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) provides short-term, transitional community-based support for individuals with mental health conditions who are ready for discharge but continue to require structured follow-up and stabilization in the community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- BSW or MSW required
- Current Certification with OCSWSSW required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
- Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an asset
- Thorough knowledge and practical experience with theories and practices of professional social work within the addiction and mental health field
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related legislation
- Knowledge of Patient and Family Care core competencies and practices
- Advanced knowledge of relevant Mental Health and Addictions community resources and service systems to facilitate support for clients and significant others through the process of community integration, recovery, and advocacy
- Knowledge of social work treatment interventions and best practices applied in recovery, clinical venues and community settings which incorporate psychosocial rehabilitation values and principals in treatment
Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal/teamwork skills to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
- Valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License and Ministry of Transportation Driver’s Abstract for extensive travel within the catchment area
- Access to a safe and reliable vehicle with sufficient insurance ($2,000,000) to allow for work-related use
- Computer skills required
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Good attendance and work record is required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario
NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.
NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.
NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
A major teaching centre for students in medicine, psychiatry, nursing and allied health professions, NBRHC is proud to be affiliated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Nipissing University, Canadore College and several other Ontario colleges and universities.
