##Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • High school completion with job-related options is required.

  • MSc. or MEng or equivalent specializing in computational hydrology or water resources engineering or equivalent experience is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 years of experience with integrating multiple types of models, including climate (CMIP5 or 6), hydrological (specifically HYPE, HEC-HMS, WATFLOOD and VIC)

  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications in the field of climate-hydrologic uncertainty modelling.

  • Expertise with Canada’s hydrometric data network and meteorological data is required.

  • Advanced analytical and scripting software experience (R, python, advanced knowledge of Fortran language, and expertise with machine learning model frameworks) is required.

  • Experience with server-based computing environments and high-performance computing, including large data management is required.

  • Experience analyzing uncertainty in large scale hydrological systems impacted by climate and human regulation, and the interface between freshwater and marine systems is required.

  • Experience managing field monitoring sites and collecting scientific data an asset.

  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong problem solving skills and trouble shooting skills is required.
  • Strong communication skills (oral + written) is required.
  • Excellent project and time management skills is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by outreach activities (related to water resources) is required.
  • Familiar with University culture and environments within research-intensive Canadian institutions, including reporting protocols for major granting agencies (i.e., NSERC) is preferred.
  • GIS experience an asset.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

##Key responsibilities

  • Work will be within an integrated climate-hydrologic (physical-conceptual and hybrid) modeling framework, which will require integrating model inputs/outputs.
  • Expectation to interpret human regulated systems into hydrological models, therefore understanding of interjurisdictional water storage and management and hydropower generation in Canada required.
  • Adhere to modelling methods, relevant standard procedures, and coding protocols and apply these standards.
  • Maintain technical codes and continuously update them.
  • Maintain regular reporting protocols and record keeping.
  • Work in an inter-disciplinary team, participate in coaching peers, and receive guidance from multiple supervisors.
  • Provide advice to supervisors on complex, project-based decisions and directions, actively participating in team brainstorming activities.
  • Work independently day-to-day, with guidance from supervisor(s) who identify major deliverables and directions.
  • Prepare and lead scientific articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Engage and communicate with industry partners and research collaborators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

##Additional information

The successful candidate will work approximately 12 hours per week
