New Grant-Funded Continuing Part-Time

28.00 hours/week between 830-430

Salary Range: $22.91 - $31.34 per hour (41,696.20 - $ $57,038.80 per annum)

Proposed Start Date: January 26, 2026

Trial/Probation Period: 840.00 work hours

Responsibilities:

Clinical:

  • Provides dental assisting services to a Health Canada grant funded apprentices, dentist, dental hygienist and/or dental students who are involved with the delivery of dental procedures on-site at various CCOH clinics, may include using mobile dental equipment in non-dental clinical settings in various personal care home (PCH) facilities. Patients may be physically, medically and/or economically compromised.

  • Ensure patient chart and laboratory work is available and ensures consent, estimate forms and payment are in order. Fills in patient charts with information from medical chart and/or information from patient.

  • Prepares instruments, portable equipment and/or sets up operatories.

  • Ensures the sterilization of necessary instruments and equipment is performed.

  • Taking and developing of dental radiographs.

  • Maintains inventory of supplies in operatories and mobile vans.

  • Arranges for service/repair of dental equipment and/or van.

  • Performs intra-oral procedures in support of dentists and students.

  • Produce records such as photographs and study models to aid in diagnosis.

  • Perform designated laboratory procedures.

  • Responsible for restocking supplies and ensuring all sterilized instruments are put away.

  • Maintenance of CCOH Clinics.

  • Skilled at using digital dentistry technology.

  • Perform universal IPAC precautions while monitoring and reporting.

  • Position requires providing dental assisting services to CCOH clinic sites, includes Churchill, MB.

FINANCIAL/CLERICAL:

  • Complete a variety of online and paper forms. Assists Health Canada grant funded apprentices with tracking of clinical progress.

  • Orders dental supplies for all clinics.

  • Maintain and coordinate appointment book schedule, using the patient management software. Respond to queries

  • Helps maintain an effective patient recall system.

  • Assist office staff with clerical duties.

  • Follows-up with collection of rejected claims and outstanding accounts and accurate completioon/follow-up of unpaid/rejected insurance claims

  • Prepares receipts and enters payments for patient accounts into the patient management system.

  • Balances and prepares deposits for cashiers' office weekly.

  • Enters patient information and treatment into charts, on insurance claim forms and referral forms. Submits all correspondence as required to appropriate LAR/facilities.

  • Required to obtain knowledge of insurance limitations and prepare proper records for submission and collection of claims/pre-authorizations to/from insurance carriers.

  • May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Phase II Dental Assisting/ Chairside course, including the advanced module.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be registered with the Manitoba Dental Association.

  • One year of related experience in a dental office.

  • Experience with dental billing such as insurance forms, billing and collection of patient accounts required.

  • Proficiency in patient management software and attention to detail.

  • Some positions require successful experience working with patients with economic, physical and mental disabilities. Working with Geriatric clients an asset.

  • Experience with intraoral scanning and digital dentistry procedures preferred.

  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be capable of carrying/transporting dental equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is required.

  • Must be able to communicate well with staff, students and the public in a pleasant and efficient manner is required.

  • Ability to maintain calm professional demeanor during times of high operational tempo and multiple demanding tasks is required.

  • Ability to communicate well with others is required.

  • Use specialized instruments and equipment is required.

  • Reassure patients to help reduce anxiety with dental procedures is required.

  • Provide assistance to patients with special needs is required.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records is required.

  • Ability to multi-task and complete required tasks within a specified time frame is required.

  • Ability to be flexible in the workplace and be a team player is required.

  • A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

OTHER JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a valid Manitoba Drivers' License.

  • Must hold a current CPR certificate

  • Excellent attendance and punctuality record required.

  • Formal WHMIS training preferred
