The position at a glance

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated intern to join our Imaging & Document Capture team that supports the processing of cheque images for corporate cash‑management solutions. The intern will work on the integration, testing and optimisation of Canon’s cheque‑scanner SDK within our internal workflows and APIs, while also extending the solution with modern Java‑based services.

In detail

The team members are responsible of the following activities:

Assist in integrating the Canon SDK (C++/C#) with our in‑house document‑capture pipeline.

Develop Java‑based micro‑services (Spring Boot) that expose scanner functionality to downstream systems.

Write and execute functional & performance test cases for cheque‑scanning modules on both Windows and Unix environments.

Analyse scanner output (image quality, MICR data extraction) and propose improvements.

Contribute to technical documentation, sample code, and API specifications.

Participate in agile ceremonies (daily stand‑up, sprint planning, demo).

Collaborate with security & compliance teams to enforce data‑privacy and networking security requirements.

Provide ad‑hoc troubleshooting for scanner‑related incidents reported by operations teams.

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Knowledge of French and English is required**.**

EDUCATION

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme (Computer Science.

Programming

  • Proficiency in C++ or C# (for SDK work)
  • Strong Java skills; experience building REST services with Spring Boot.

Operating Systems

Comfortable developing and testing on Windows and Unix/Linux platforms.

Networking

Basic understanding of TCP/IP, sockets, and firewall concepts (required for communicating with network‑attached scanners).

SDK Experience

Hands‑on experience with any hardware SDK (Canon SDK preferred; any similar imaging SDK acceptable).

Version Control

Familiarity with Git (branching, pull‑requests).

Problem‑Solving

Ability to diagnose and debug low‑level hardware‑software integration issues.

Communication

Clear written and verbal English; capable of documenting technical findings for both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Teamwork

Experience working in a collaborative, agile environment (e.g., university projects, hackathons).

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

Knowledge of MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) standards and cheque‑processing workflows.

Experience with image‑processing libraries (OpenCV, ImageMagick).

Understanding of secure data handling, GDPR‑compliant storage of financial documents, and network security best practices.

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI) and containerisation (Docker).

Prior internship or project work in financial services, fintech, or banking technology.
