About the role

NSB Omega is searching for a Planning & Scheduling Lead for our Major Oil & Gas Client for a FIFO rotational role in Kearl, AB.

Assignment Description Core Responsibilities

  • As a site-based execution planner on a very time critical project (schedule-driven), key responsibility will be to facilitate a daily “war room” meeting with Construction Contractor and Construction Management Team (CMT) at site for closely monitoring of contractors detailed daily plan / FIWP level progress / 3-week schedule, ensuring opportunities and vulnerabilities are understood and mitigated/captured
  • Assess if field progress reporting by Contractor is accurate – spot checking with field walks and ensuring agreed upon process on Rules of Credit are being adhered to
  • Review of FIWP packages developed by Contractor for completeness. Vet the mapping of FIWP packages to the contractors Level 4 tasks ensuring alignment.
  • During execution, coordinate and facilitate meetings with the Contractor and CMT team when interruptions / changes are introduced to the previously approved packages (i.e., Engineering and Procurement - early advancement or delays, changes to work front release dates, etc.)
  • Understand schedule/execution lagging and leading indicators as submitted by Contractor, and provide expert added interpretation on your anticipation to forecast of progress to Project Management Team (PMT), and Project Owner’s Integrated Schedule (OIS) Scheduler. When needed, provide expert assessment/recommendations on mitigating execution strategies to ensure compliance with Project OIS milestones.
  • Coordinate timely communication of Project OIS progress updates to Construction Contractor, ensuring Construction Contractor Schedule updates incorporate latest information from Project OIS
  • Assess all Change Orders from Contractor that carry a schedule impact in a timely manner to quantify schedule impact with a clearly defined delay on Contractor’s Level 4 Schedule and all supporting reasoning for the delay. Use expert judgement to provide recommendations if the delay claimed is reasonable for both cause and impact timeline.

Required Experience/Strengths

  • Strong experience in execution workface planning, familiarity with AWP concepts, and experience generating FIWP
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (ability to coordinate and facilitate daily meetings with Construction Contractor and CMT)
  • Experienced in managing sub-system level walkdowns, outstanding punch tracking, A/B check sheets tracking and handovers
  • Experienced in creation of detailed commissioning schedules and managing progress
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Primavera P6 (i.e., know how to navigate and understand logic etc.) but not for making P6 updates (read-only access)
  • Knowledgeable with Project schedule control and critical assessment of contractor schedule progress vs forecast
  • Fly-in/fly-out rotation
