Position Summary :

The Admitting Clerk is a member of the Patient Services Healthcare Team and is responsible for registering/admitting patients in a courteous, accurate and efficient manner, while meeting the needs of the hospital, healthcare professionals and patients. The Admitting Clerk will provide clerical support to Day Surgery to ensure efficient and orderly operation of the clinic. Responsibilities include: serving as receptionist for the clinic; organizing and scheduling appointments for clinic patients for consultations and procedures; filing; registering appointments and other tests; computer work as required and other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Graduate of a formal medical terminology program
  • Three (3) years' recent clinical experience
  • Keyboard at 50 wpm, plus experience with Microsoft Word and Excel; Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of Infor
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to present a positive and professional image to patients and visitors in person and on the telephone
  • Ability to work and function efficiently and courteously under stressful situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, including strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
  • Positive work record, good attendance record and a level of physical fitness appropriate for the physical demands of the position are essential
