About the role
This intermediate accounting position provides support to Finance department in a variety of areas of responsibilities. This includes balance sheet and income statement accounts reconciliations, analysis, and preparation of related journal entries; preparation of internal and external financial statements including supporting working papers; forecasting; preparation and remitting of various governmental and non-governmental reports; financial analysis; assistance in other general accounting duties including special projects and reports. This position will perform reviews and analysis that require working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, selected CRA rules and regulations, high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reconciles and analyzes assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts; prepares and verifies related journal entries.

Assists in preparing divisional and organizational financial statements or reports.
-
Processes regular and recurring journal entries and interdepartmental invoices; sets up vendors and inputs other assigned entries into the system.

Assists other departmental and TRU staff with advice, training, and expertise on the use of the financial systems.

Prepares assigned standard and ad-hoc management information reports including supporting working papers.
-
Prepares and remits reports to various governmental and non-governmental agencies such as Canada Revenue Agency and BC Provincial Government, Statistics Canada and others.

Reviews, analyzes and verifies journal entries and other posting reports.

Provides a variety of business support, project assistance and analysis for the Finance department management team.

Supports and provides backup for various clerical functions within Finance, including running financial processes.

Maintains relevant filing system and records.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:

Completion of business bachelor's degree
EXPERIENCE:
-
Three years' related progressive accounting experience preparing financial analytics, reconciliations and other financial reports, including utilizing and developing large complex spreadsheets and databases

Experience with computerized accounting systems
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Knowledge of CRA rules and regulations

Demonstrable advanced Excel skills

Required to work with clients and staff with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy

Required to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
