What can you expect from this position?
Reporting to the Associate Director, Financial Business Planning, the Manager, Business Planning and Analysis - MGI (Malton Gateway Inc) plays a dual role as a strategic finance partner to MGI’s Commercial business leaders and its real estate accounting operations. You will be supporting strategic, data-driven decision-making for MGI by leading financial planning, analysis, and performance monitoring, while ensuring compliance with IFRS and strong internal controls. As a key finance partner to MGI’s Commercial team, you’ll align financial strategy with business goals and oversee all aspects of real estate accounting and reporting. It’s a unique opportunity to blend strategic insight with operational leadership in a growing real estate environment.
As a Manager, Business Planning and Analysis - MGI, you will:
- Partner with real estate business leaders to deliver financial insights that support strategic planning, capital investment, and portfolio performance.
- Lead the development of business cases, financial models, and scenario analyses for key initiatives and opportunities.
- Prepare monthly management reports, Board presentations, and consolidated financial statements with detailed variance analysis.
- Oversee month-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger management for multiple properties.
- Manage the annual budgeting and forecasting process to align with business goals and performance targets.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS accounting standards and maintain strong internal controls across the real estate portfolio.
- Prepare quarterly and annual external financial statements and coordinate audit activities with external auditors.
- Collaborate with third-party property management firms and internal teams to ensure accurate and timely financial data collection.
- Monitor and refine KPIs and dashboards to track business performance and drive accountability.
- Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes, reporting, and controls to enhance efficiency and transparency.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in accounting and financial planning & analysis (FP&A).
- 5+ years of full-cycle property or real estate accounting experience.
- Strong background in forecasting, budgeting, KPI tracking, and building business cases.
- Experience partnering with operational or real estate leadership teams to drive business results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex financial info clearly.
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn data into actionable insights.
- Solid skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) at an intermediate or advanced level.
- Familiarity with financial ERP systems like Yardi Voyager, Oracle, or Workday Adaptive.
- Great organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines reliably.
- Ability to build strong, cooperative relationships with stakeholders across teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce or other relevant field.
- A CPA designation or are actively working towards one.
- Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position.
