Salary Range:$63,347 to $116,190 (based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement)

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • Commitment and demonstrated ability to incorporate the current Integrated Arts and Technology (IAT) philosophy:
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) – plan inclusively to allow multiple access points for learners with differing abilities, interests, and needs.
  • Project Based Learning (PBL) – design, implement and assess PBL that explores and connects Big Ideas and concepts across disciplines.
  • Demonstrations, Artifacts, Performances and Exhibitions – facilitate authentic learning opportunities and experiences that embed art and technology and allow for student voice and choice.
  • The District's 4 Pillars of IAT (Integrated Disciplines; Collaborative Culture; Authentic Learning; Visionary Staff) – work collaboratively as part of a teaching team in the implementation of the District's four pillars of IAT.
  • Demonstrated interest, aptitude, or experience in fine arts, applied arts, media arts, or technology.
  • Understanding and commitment to current middle school philosophy:
  • Teaming – demonstrated ability and experience working with one or two other teachers to support a core group of students.
  • Connections – dedicated instructional time with students to foster connectedness and positive relationships to support adolescent development.
  • Exploratory – providing students the opportunity to sample high interest courses.
  • Collaboration – ongoing inquiry-based teamwork.
  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching at the middle school level.
  • Willingness to use outdoor learning space as part of the extended classroom connecting place and space.
  • Willingness to use District and Ministry data sets (ACT, SNAP, FSA, PM/RR) to identify student need and drive informed teaching practice and team teacher planning.
  • Commitment and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of an assigned teaching team.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to Indigenizing curriculum using the First Peoples Principles of Learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to use an integrated, cross curricular approach to plan instruction and use highly successful assessment strategies in the classroom – for, of and as learning.
  • Demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies and lesson designs in the classroom (i.e. a Connect, Process, Transform, Reflect approach).
  • Demonstrated experience intervening, supporting, and motivating struggling learners through a Response to Intervention (RTI) lens, particularly in literacy and numeracy key concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and acknowledge individual student differences and adjust instructional practices accordingly through informal adaptations and formal Competency Based Individual Education Plans (CBIEP's).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate students in day-to-day lessons through the appropriate integration of technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and clarify learning standards and to establish effective classroom procedures and relationships.
  • Demonstrated excellent classroom management, behaviour management and classroom organization skills; experience with Positive Behaviour and Support (PBS) is an asset.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents.
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence and self-worth in adolescents.
