HOURS OF WORK:

The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Provides comprehensive care to victims/survivors of sexual assault and or domestic violence including medical, emotional and legal aspects of nursing care as outlined in the PRHC Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Medical Directives of Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and three years of nursing practice in a related field required.
  • Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/ Domestic Violence Treatment Centre's Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training required
  • Excellent physical assessment skills required
  • Experience working with victims of violence
  • Experience in crisis intervention and supportive counseling
  • Ability to practice autonomously and apply critical thinking and complex decision-making skills required
  • Commitment and experience working effectively with populations who face higher rates of violence and face barriers to access safe and culturally appropriate healthcare.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cooperative teamwork
  • Experience developing or facilitating education programs

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Must have the ability to provide unbiased, non-judgmental information, support and care, especially concerning issues of sexuality, gender identity, reproductive health and reproductive choice
  • Understanding of the systemic nature of gender-based violence and the issues facing victims of violence in urban and rural settings.
  • Skill in interviewing and physical assessment of adults and children
  • Skills in pelvic examination or delivery of sexual healthcare
  • Skills in health teaching and delivering complex information
  • Counseling skills and/or experience in crisis intervention
  • Understanding of the practice of trauma and violence-informed care.
  • Knowledge of forensic sciences, the criminal justice system or the criminal code as it relates to sexual assault and domestic violence.
  • Knowledge of local and regional legal and community services and referral pathways
  • Skills in patient advocacy, case management and care planning
  • Understanding of cultural safety and an ability to respectfully engage with patients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively utilize electronic medical records.
