  • Data Analyst 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences.

Lo****cation:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, or Brossard.

Team Overview:

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

o Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.

o Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.

o Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.

o Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

As a member of the Data Transformation Initiatives team, the Senior Data Analyst works as a liaison between the business and technical communities in the development of data solutions that support the business needs. The Senior Data Analyst, while applying digital principles, elicits, analyzes, communicates, validates, and translates data business needs into communications, agile stories (EPIC, Features, Stories and Tasks) and other documentation. This role also requires enhanced understanding and experience with Data modeling and analysis techniques to build and maintain transformation rules and source to target mappings.

The Senior Data Analyst should be able to understand client ask, work with clients to deep dive into the business rules and data transformation rules requirements, as well as analyze and document new data requirements and to be able to help the design of the new data integration stream or update the existing data pipeline.

The Senior Data Analyst is an active participant in an Agile team and all phases of the product lifecycle and will work with the squad, various technology stakeholders, and internal customers to identify and maximize opportunities to leverage information and technology capabilities to enable business use cases. The Senior Data Analyst assesses processes and information streams and is proficient in the utilization of the appropriate tools, models, and techniques as part of delivering capabilities.

This position requires digital competencies, an ability to learn new solutions rapidly, the agility to respond to constant changes, strong IT knowledge, as well as excellent communications and analytical skills. It also necessitates strong collaborative and relationship management skills given the high level of interaction.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead development and maintenance of data modelling activities throughout the data delivery and software development life cycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and evaluate the feasibility/relevance of data products and data solutions from a technological and organizational perspective.
  • Review and recommend conceptual, logical, and physical data models to determine compatibility and fit with architectural principles and optimal solution design.
  • Understand system data elements and existing data structures, as well as data lineage connecting source to target.
  • Understand client requirements and convert the ask into technical terms/user stories.
  • Work with Agile team, Business Analysts, Data Architects and Data Engineers to help and come up with the solution approach.
  • Research and document data platform and outputs: source to target mapping, business rules applied to data transformation, data cataloging, data lineage.
  • Use knowledge of end-to-end data processes to analyze, cleanse, and enrich data elements, and ensure that data flows efficiently and consistently between users and stakeholders.
  • Support data governance activities and ensuring data integrity by carrying out data quality analysis and coordinating data management efforts across the organizations.
  • Carry out gap analysis and document data gaps for reporting needs.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Deconstruct complex technical solutions and explain them to a non-technical audience in simple and clear terms.
  • Present complex or conflicting situations/issues to stakeholders. Uses persuasion, influence, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Utilize broad knowledge of business processes, applications, products, business strategy and internal and external customer needs to contribute to the optimum business solution.
  • Lead informative well-organized presentations and facilitate sessions to review data requirements and identify gaps; ability to bring others to agreement around a set of ideas to achieve the goal or bring about beneficial resolution.
  • Deliver clear, complete, and usable documentation, that is right sized for the product, and that the client and/or product owner can validate to support the sign-off process; and is serviceable for the technical project members to deliver the solution.
  • Participate in all sprint-based activities (Sprint Review, Retrospectives, backlog refinements) as required.

What we are looking for:

  • Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering, Commerce, Business, or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a dedicated Data Analyst or Data Modeler
  • Well-rounded experience in the whole data lifecycle management and hands-on experience in the following data management domains: dimensional and relational data modeling, data quality, SQL programming, ETL development, metadata management and master data management and business intelligence
  • Hands on-experience leading the development and maintenance of data modelling activities throughout the data delivery and software development life cycle.
  • Experience with reverse engineering the source to target mapping to gain data insights
  • Ability to produce ETL specification based on the physical data model
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with both business and technical audiences. Strong listening skills.

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience with Azure Data Platform technologies.
  • Experience with Databricks.
  • Experience with data modeling technologies such as Erwin.
  • Knowledge of Spark SQL.
  • Programming experience: SQL, R, Python.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, critical thinking, time management, priority planning and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills, including facilitating group sessions and displaying leadership within a project team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced in an agile environment and can pivot to support changing business priorities.
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
