TEMPORARY CHILD AND YOUTH CARE WORKER

Overview
The successful applicant will work with/under the direction of the
school Principal in dealing with behavioral, social and emotional concerns and
provide support to children in crisis. This would entail individual and
group work in various settings such as the classroom and alternate class
environments. The successful applicant, under direction, will also make
referrals to outside agencies as needed, and will be expected to work closely
with the school Principal and the School Based and Integrated Case Management
teams. This excluded staff position will be 7.0 hours per day, 4 days per
week, until June 25, 2026 or return of incumbent, and while students are in school. The rate
of pay for this position is $31.39 per hour.
Required Qualifications and Education:

Successful
completion of a bachelor’s degree in child and Youth Care or Social Work
or the equivalent combination of training and recent related experience;
-
Two
years of current related work experience;
-
Knowledge
of current legislation and protocols (i.e.) Mental Health Act, Child,
Family and Community Services Act (Child Protection), and Young Offenders
Act, etc.;
-
Demonstrated
knowledge of current community and agency resources;
-
Demonstrated
ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of
initiative appropriate to the position;
-
Demonstrated
ability to respond to complex referrals;
-
Excellent
oral and written communication skills;
-
Demonstrated
ability to employ prevention or intervention behaviour management
strategies;
-
Demonstrated
ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships with children, youth
and adults;
-
Physical
ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job;
-
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of
sensitive information seen or heard;
-
Demonstrated effective time management and
organizational skills;
-
Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting
in the implementation of program objectives;
-
Working
with students with exceptional social, emotional and behaviour challenges;
-
Implementing
interventions with students and families and providing feedback regarding
the same;
-
Providing
reports to the Principal regarding program activities, children’s progress
and challenges;
-
Establishing
and maintaining records of student individual programs;
-
Other
duties as coordinated with program teachers; may include shared
responsibility for supporting outdoor pursuits, cultural trips, etc.;

Must
possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.
