The Office of Science Education (OSE) is seeking a candidate for a graduate student position related to teaching and learning in higher education. This position is open to a Master’s or Doctoral student who is interested in developing their knowledge and skills in teaching and learning.
The successful applicant will contribute to a range of activities currently undertaken by the Office of Science Education to support Undergraduate Initiatives (e.g., the
Undergraduate Science Showcase
,
TEAM program
, and
SciLearn Peer Collaboration
. This position will be supervised by the Student Engagement and Learning Manager. To complement our current team and projects, we particularly invite candidates who have skills and/or interests in undergraduate science education to apply.
Tasks: The Science Education Fellow for Undergraduate Initiatives will provide support for activities such as:

Planning workshops and other teaching support activities (e.g., webinars, brown bag sessions, guest speakers);
-
Developing program materials (manuals, contact lists, calendar of upcoming events);
-
Communicating with students, instructors, facilitators, speakers and/or participants;
-
Facilitating sessions that focus on pedagogical topics such as peer learning, learning strategies, science communication, etc.
-
Gathering and summarizing information for planning and evaluation;
-
Preparing project documents and reports;
-
Advertising instructor and student support offerings and other activities;
-
Contributing to research projects e.g., designing surveys, leading interviews, writing literature reviews, conducting statistical analysis, conducting qualitative data analysis, performing coding, programming.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent information literacy skills (i.e., ability to define research terms; search online databases, journals, websites; prepare annotated bibliographies; and critically evaluate resources)
