About the role

Please note: This is a 12-month temporary position

As ATB's next Senior Risk Manager, Advisory Services Risk, you will function as the First Line of Defence (FLOD) risk and internal controls subject matter expert within Advisory Services, specifically with ATB Securities Inc. (ATBSI). Reporting directly to the Director of Upstream Risk, Regulatory and Policy in ATB Advisory Services Risk, your core responsibilities encompass leading the execution of risk identification, assessment, and recommendation of risk treatment strategies, thereby facilitating informed decision-making within Advisory Services. You will proactively establish and nurture collaborative partnerships with Advisory Services business units, ATBSI leaders and their respective teams, promoting a culture of risk management and managing complex issue escalations. Your ability to exert influence and cultivate trusted relationships across ATBSI, ATB Wealth, and ATB Financial Risk Management is essential. You will analyze interdepartmental dependencies and work with leadership to develop innovative risk solutions, and utilize your strong listening and facilitation skills to challenge and refine initiatives. In addition, you will work with the Director in achieving ATB Wealth's strategic and operational goals by supporting the execution of comprehensive risk reporting for senior leadership.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and execute the continuous improvement of risk management processes by executing risk identification, assessment, treatment, and monitoring activities, as well as collaborating with senior leadership and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with ATB’s strategy and risk appetite
  • Execute all accountabilities and responsibilities of first line risk in accordance with applicable published risk frameworks
  • Support leadership in planning, oversight and delivery of risk reporting activities to senior leadership and ATB Financial
  • Support the maintenance and certification of the Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA) program
  • Expert understanding of regulatory compliance requirements, including interpretation of regulatory data and impact and how they integrate with ATB policies in order to deliver Regulatory Compliance Matrices (RCM and the assessment of the control environment design and effectiveness
  • Contribute to the operational resilience of the organization by facilitating the maintenance of the Business Continuity Management (BCM) program, including the regular assessment of business impacts (BIA) and planning for continuity (BCP).
  • Facilitate and/or contribute to effective change management by applying risk governance that addresses the risks associated with new product, services, platforms and systems deployments and/or related process changes
  • Establish reporting of strategic operating plan on key risk indicators (KRIs) and achievement to key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Engage with ATB Financial’s Third Party Risk Management team to support risk governance on third party relationships through the execution of first line review and delivery of SOC (service/system organization controls) reports and facilitating discussions between TPRM and 1LOD on critical third party relationships.
  • Work with team members and facilitate discussions with internal partners to review and test internal controls (assurance reviews), noting gaps and identifying opportunities for remediation and improvement
  • Lead the investigation of root cause analysis of operational risks and related events to capture insight and identify actionable mitigations to reduce impacts and prevent recurrence
  • Champion a culture of risk management by collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership, and leveraging enterprise-wide networks (ATBSI, ATB Wealth, ATB Financial) to drive continuous improvement.
  • Possess exceptional communication and influencing skills to act as a trusted partner, bridging the gap between risk teams and enterprise stakeholders by translating complex data into clear business narratives

Skills, experience & requirements

  • University Degree in risk management/business administration/finance or other related area
  • 7-10 years of experience in risk management, audit or internal controls with demonstrated expertise in operational risk practices and tools such as Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs), Key Risk Indicators (KRis), internal loss data analysis. Professional designation (CPA, CIA, CAMS) is considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of securities regulations (CIRO, ASC). Preference will be given to candidates with investment industry experience, particularly those holding a Canadian Securities Certificate (CSC) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience analyzing regulations and internal controls and applying them within a complex business environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of ATB Financial and ATBSI’s organizational structure and associated risk profile.
  • Leadership, coaching and/or mentorship and is considered an asset
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects to deliver results in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to identify, prioritize, frame and clearly articulate operational and strategic risk issues to all levels levels within the organization
  • Strong strategic planning capabilities with the ability to translate high-level goals into tactical activities.
  • Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively leverage internal and industry resources.
