The Opportunity:
The Energy Manager (EM) will deliver energy management services for Cape Breton Regional Municipality, supported by EfficiencyOne and the Contract Lead. This role involves collaborating with client facilities staff, engineering, production teams, and management to promote energy conservation and implement efficiency initiatives. Preference will be given to candidates residing in Cape Breton Regional Municipality, as local knowledge and proximity are valuable for building strong relationships and delivering impactful results.
· Develop and implement energy management plans and efficiency projects.
- Analyze production and energy data to identify savings opportunities.
- Support implementation of controls and equipment upgrades for energy savings.
- Conduct technical audits, feasibility studies, and prepare business cases.
- Recommend projects, measures, and incentive programs.
- Understand mechanical and electrical systems within client facilities.
- Manage project documentation, incentive applications, and development agreements.
- Navigate client budget frameworks and procurement policies.
- Serve as project manager for energy-related capital projects and liaise with consultants.
- Oversee procurement for energy efficiency projects.
- Provide reports and presentations to stakeholders and EfficiencyOne.
- Maintain a safe, professional work environment and uphold corporate policies.
- Perform other duties as required.
What Will Help You Succeed?

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and eligibility to practice as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, or equivalent education and experience.

Minimum 3 years of experience in energy management or related projects.

CEM and PMP certifications are assets.

Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical plans/specs.

Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills.

Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).

Self-motivated, independent, and able to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Preference given to candidates residing in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

In the first week, expect to:
- Meet with the EfficiencyOne Energy Manager and Services team.
- Develop a 90-day onboarding plan.
- Review key resources: service manuals, program protocols, auditing guidelines, and sample reports.resources and reference material is critical to executing your short-term plan on-site.
In the first month, expect to:

- Build organizational awareness—understand key stakeholders and internal processes.

Review ISO 50001 and apply its principles.

Meet with Program Managers and Senior Energy Managers to align on strategies.

Connect with consultants to explore support services
In the first three months, expect to:
- Establish monitoring, tracking, and reporting systems.
- Conduct on-site energy audits and identify efficiency solutions.
- Develop business cases with contractors and consultants.
- Create a master list of energy efficiency measures.
- Draft a living Energy Management Plan to guide long-term strategy.
