About the role

Job Overview Respiratory Physiotherapy Assistant – Band 4 (or Band 3 Developmental Role) 22.5 hours per week Chest Clinic, King Edward VII Hospital The Frimley Adult Integrated Respiratory Service is a large, dynamic and award-winning team delivering high-quality community respiratory care, including Royal College of Physicians accredited Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes.

We are seeking a motivated Respiratory Physiotherapy Assistant to work within our multidisciplinary team, supporting the delivery and smooth running of community respiratory services. The role combines supervised and independent patient contact with administrative and organisational duties.

You will support Pulmonary Rehabilitation assessment clinics and classes, maintenance groups, ambulatory oxygen assessment clinics, and respiratory physiotherapy domiciliary and outpatient services. The aim of the service is to promote patient independence, self-management and positive behaviour change.

The service is working towards a seven-day model and weekend working may be required.

Essential: Full UK driving licence and access to own car.

Open to Band 3 and Band 4 applicants. Band 3 candidates will be supported to develop to Band 4 upon completion of training and competencies.

Person specification

Qualifications Essential criteria

  • GCSE or equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics
  • Exercise qualification such as: Level 4 Certificate in Exercise Training for Chronic Respiratory Disease - Certificate in personal training (level 3), list on REPS register or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of anatomy/physiology
  • Basic knowledge of COPD and other respiratory conditions

Experience Essential criteria

  • Delivering exercise programmes in a hospital or fitness setting
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting

Desirable criteria

  • Assessing cardiovascular and respiratory status
  • Undertaking exercise prescription for people with long term conditions

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Interpersonal skills to include concise and effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to instruct and motivate
  • Organisational skills, ability to prioritise workload
  • Good IT skills able to use windows packages
  • Able to adapt to changing circumstances

Desirable criteria

  • Able to overcome barriers to exercise
