Host, Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar (Part-time)
As a Host at Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar, you are the first point of contact and the first impression of our refined dining experience. With grace, warmth, and professionalism, you will warmly welcome each guest, setting the tone for their visit and ensuring they feel genuinely valued from the moment they arrive. Your personalized service and attention to detail will help create the seamless, elevated experience that defines Hawthorn.

Reporting to the Restaurant General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Warmly welcome guests to Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar with a gracious and sincere greeting, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience and offering a genuine farewell to thank them for their visit.
  • Ensure all actions align with Fairmont service standards, consistently delivering a seamless luxury experience.
  • Oversee the taking, confirming, and managing of all reservations via phone, email, and online platforms. Coordinate with the Hawthorn Events Manager for all party inquiries exceeding eight guests.
  • Assist restaurant leadership with daily floor planning and service section assignments, ensuring equitable guest distribution across all service staff.
  • Maintain clear communication with kitchen and bar teams, ensuring they are informed of reservations, dietary requirements, and notable guests.
  • Manage guest flow with poise and efficiency, ensuring minimal wait times and a balanced, elevated experience for all guests.
  • Act as an on-site concierge, confidently offering guests information about the restaurant, hotel amenities, and notable local attractions.
  • Proficiently operate and manage key software systems, including Silverware POS, OpenTable, Opera PMS, Outlook, and other relevant platforms to ensure operational excellence.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all food and beverage offerings, menu pairings, seasonal features, and vendor partnerships to reinforce the restaurant’s local-first philosophy.
  • Create memorable guest moments through proactive engagement, conducting quality checks, and resolving any concerns promptly and graciously.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe host area and work environment, upholding all Health & Safety protocols and working knowledgeably within safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations, as outlined in the EHC manual, with consistent attention to cleanliness and presentation.
  • Support and uphold the hotel’s sustainability goals, including food waste reduction and environmentally responsible service practices.
  • Be available to work a variety of shifts and days, as required by business levels and seniority.
  • Execute additional duties as required by the Restaurant General Manager or their designate, always demonstrating a commitment to excellence and teamwork.

Participate in ongoing training and assessments to maintain expert-level knowledge of all menu offerings, including food, wine, cocktails, spirits, and beer, ensuring confident and accurate guest engagement at all times.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of front-of-house experience in a luxury hotel, fine dining restaurant, or upscale hospitality environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; additional languages are considered an asset
  • Proficient in OpenTable, Opera PMS, Silverware POS, Microsoft Outlook, and related hospitality systems
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask gracefully
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and maintain a positive, service-oriented atmosphere
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, in accordance with business demands
  • Warm, confident, and professional demeanor with a genuine passion for delivering exceptional guest service
  • Impeccable grooming and presentation, consistent with luxury hospitality standard
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, composed, and solution-focused in high-volume and fast-paced settings
  • Passion for hospitality and a desire to grow within a luxury brand environment
