The opportunity:
The Senior Lead, Information Technologist at the I.H. Asper School of Business provides strategic leadership and oversight in digital infrastructure and academic technologies, ensuring alignment with the school’s evolving teaching, research, and administrative needs. Reporting to the Director of the Dean’s Office and working closely with academic leadership and central IT, the role serves as the faculty’s primary IT advisor. It plays a key role in implementing initiatives that support Asper’s strategic goals—ranging from infrastructure modernization to integrating AI into learning—while prioritizing service excellence, compliance, and pedagogical innovation.
This position leads collaboration on projects such as automating curriculum mapping, optimizing learning management systems, and expanding AI-driven instructional tools. By fostering partnerships across departments and guiding the IT team, the role drives continuous improvement and operational excellence. It ensures the faculty remains competitive and future-ready by advancing educational technologies and streamlining academic and administrative processes. With a focus on governance, planning, and stakeholder engagement, the Senior Lead is instrumental in enhancing academic effectiveness and delivering high-quality experiences for students and faculty.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
- A Bachelor's degree or college diploma from a recognized college required, preferably with a major in management information systems, public administration, computer information systems or a related field, or equivalent
- A minimum of seven years of directly related experience with developing and maintaining enterprise systems required
- Proven experience in managing, directing and fostering specialized teams
- Experience in conducting needs assessments and responding with timely solutions in the designing, implementation and evaluation of IT projects
- Experience in the functional analysis, configuration, modification, and maintenance of complex relational databases, required
- Experience configuring software and various system software or equivalent university information system, required
- Experience coordinating work, assigning deadlines, training and mentoring required.
- Experience implementing highly complex technical projects, required
- Experience interpreting business processes to implement University of Manitoba rules and regulations, required
- Experience chairing meetings and collaborating with stakeholders during project implementations, required
- A successful track record of forming relationships and working with others across departments and within teams, required
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Learn the characteristics of new systems and update skills to adapt to changing technology
- Develop complex solutions to meet business needs and meet the expectations of end users
- Organize, prioritize and initiate work
- Lead and mentor others
- Influence change and manage resistance to change
- Work effectively, both independently and collaboratively
- Establish and meet priorities and project schedules
- Express concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- Show good situational judgment in an academic environment
- Work effectively and cooperatively with administrators, staff, end-users, project consultants and vendors
- Present and lead discussions on system functionality as it relates to current operational needs
- Work confidentially with discretion using tact, patience, and courtesy
- The following computer skills are required: Power BI, Teams and Teams productivity apps, presentations, word processing , spreadsheets, databases, e-mail (Outlook)
- Knowledge of Python programming language and familiarity in using Artificial Intelligence platforms is a strong asset and preferred
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required
