About the role

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one casual Mobile Unit Driver position within our Central Registry Office Department (CRO located at 150 Henry Ave in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Mobile Unit Driver is responsible for driving Citizenship staff to specified destinations across Manitoba, including operating schedules for their routes, obeying traffic laws, and assisting clients. This position operates on an as-needed basis, with hours varying dependent on the needs of the mobile office, which runs from April to October.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Drive CRO staff to designated locations;
  • Help passengers load and unload items while accounting for passengers before leaving a location;
  • Communicate clearly and interact with CRO staff, other passengers, colleagues, and the public in a courteous and professional manner;
  • Demonstrate high standards of conduct and ethics as well as appropriate judgement, independence, and discretion;
  • Obey traffic laws and provincial and federal regulations including but not limited to The Highway Traffic Act;
  • Must adhere to the Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations and adhere to all Manitoba Métis Federation policies;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director pertaining to the position.    

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and/or a post secondary education is considered an asset;
  • A Valid Class 5 – Manitoba Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract is required;
  • A Valid Class 3 – Manitoba Driver's License is also desired;
  • Minimum one year experience operating a motor carrier with previous experience assisting the public;
  • Experience performing basic bus maintenance and customer service;
  • Highly developed understanding of transportation industry regulations, standards, and best practices;
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel for extended periods of time;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills; 
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset; and,
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset;
