About the role

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is a multi-site organization that includes the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital Site and the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Site, and together we provide outstanding, integrated care to support people in living their healthiest lives.

Overview

The Medical Laboratory Transcriptionist provides specialized transcription and administrative support to the Laboratory, ensuring the accurate and timely transcription, processing, and distribution of pathology reports. This role is responsible for prioritizing workflow, maintaining confidential patient records, coordinating pathology documentation and send-outs, supporting laboratory operations, and providing administrative assistance.

ROLE

Transcribe dictation using the dictation system, by priority

Transcribe dictated reports including surgical tissue reports, consultations, addendums, provisional autopsy, final autopsy and any stat consultations as requested by the pathologist Organize and schedule laboratory office workflow to ensure turnaround times are met; determine priority of work Assist in developing and editing laboratory office procedures due to process changes Retrieve previous reports for patients from required databases Obtain and/or clarify missing and unclear information contained in dictated medical reports Distribute transcribed Pathology and Cytology reports to physicians, including addendums Report problems with dictating/transcription equipment or software Perform the procedure for electronic authentication daily Provide administrative support to the Lab Manager, Charge/Senior Technologists and Pathologist Perform day-to-day administrative functions and general office duties including, but not limited to, word processing, copying, filing, faxing, scanning and answering the telephone Coordinate frozen section requests from the surgeon’s office and submit to the pathologist for approval (service currently suspended)A

Qualifications

Secondary School Diploma or equivalent

Successful completion of Medical Terminology Course 1 year of Medical Transcription experience Certificate in a recognized Office Administration course or equivalent experience (desired)

Additional Information

Location: South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, shifts include 6 am to 2 pm and 8 am to 4 pm. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
