About the role
Pay rate, benefits and other terms and conditions are as per the OPSEU 662 Collective Agreement
Duration Approximately Twelve (12) Months QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) required, Masters in Social Work (MSW) an asset
- Current certification of Registration from OCSWSSW required
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)
- Must have 3-5 years of recent (within the last 2-3 yrs.) experience in an acute care setting with coordination of community services required
- Excellent conceptual protocol knowledge of relevant legislation is required
- Knowledge relating to utilization and decision support required
- Experience, skill and punctuality in preparing reports required
- Knowledge of community resources is required
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal, interviewing and counselling skills required
- Case management skills and inter-disciplinary and intersectoral team orientation required
- Demonstrated familiarity with discharge planning principles and resource utilization required
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision, capable of making timely decisions and exercising tact and good judgement.
- Expected to function independently
- Computer skills required
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Valid class G Driver’s License and Ministry of Transportation Driver’s Abstract required for extensive travel within the catchment area
- Good attendance and work record required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario
NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.
NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.
NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
A major teaching centre for students in medicine, psychiatry, nursing and allied health professions, NBRHC is proud to be affiliated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Nipissing University, Canadore College and several other Ontario colleges and universities.
