Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor Wastewater Operations and Maintenance, the Maintenance Operator Class II - WwTF is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and major rebuild on all mechanical equipment related to the treatment, collection and transmission of wastewater and biosolids treatment, handling and air emissions, including new installations 24hrs a day 365 days a year. Specifically, this position machines, welds and fabricates parts for equipment rebuild/repair, and completes detailed logs and records of work in accordance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, this position acts as a Wastewater Operator, monitoring treatment and collection processes as assigned. Lastly, this position is comprised of various provincially regulated Trades including but not limited to: Industrial Mechanic Millwright, Tool and Die Machinist, and Plumber. Overall, this position plays an integral role in ensuring that wastewater mechanical equipment is functioning properly and maintained in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements and manufacturers warranties and design standards. This in turn allows continuous operation of Wastewater plant, equipment and systems in keeping with community health needs and sound asset and risk management practices.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Secondary School Diploma
- Three (3) year College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline; OR Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certificate of Qualification (720 Hours of In-School Training as outlined by the Ontario College of Trades); OR Plumber Certificate of Qualification (720 Hours of In-School Training as outlined by the Ontario College of Trades); OR Tool and Die Certificate of Qualification (720 Hours of In-School Training as outlined by the Ontario College of Trades)
- Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection Operator-in-Training (OIT) Licence from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation & Parks (MECP)
- Eligibility for or willingness to obtain the Gas Technician/Oil Burner Technician
- Eligibility for or willingness to obtain the Industrial Maintenance Technician
- Eligibility for or willingness to obtain an A(R) Z Driver's Licence
Experience
- Two (2) years of experience (beyond 5 year apprenticeship) performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Ontario Class D Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement, in good standing
- Medical documentation to confirm medically fit to wear a respirator
- Must successfully pass the MECP Wastewater Treatment Class 1 Exam within 12 months of hire, and possess the Wastewater Treatment Class 1 license within 18 months of employment
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check*
Location: Wastewater Treatment Facility, 249 Bradford Street, Barrie, Ontario
Hours: The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement
