Assistant Operations Manager (Days/Afternoons)

Sudbury Distribution Centre

Position Summary:
The Assistant Operations Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the overall management of the business, which will focus on the day-to-day operations on the Afternoon and Night shifts within the designated Distribution Centre. They will collaborate closely with the Operations Manager and Supervisors to ensure smooth operations, excellent customer service and effective employee management. Primary responsibilities will include overseeing the coaching, and development of Warehouse Supervisors, ensure appropriate staffing levels are in place to meet seasonal demands, driving a continuous improvement mindset, foster a team environment and safety driven culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance and take direction to oversee all aspects of warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, inventory management, and customer orders.
  • Ensure adequate resources are in place to meet requirements and support business needs.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols in compliance with the OHSA regulations to ensure a safe and secure environment for all warehouse employees.
  • Provide support to the warehouse team to ensure the accurate and timely reporting for injuries and accidents, and partner with Health & Safety to implement effective countermeasures.
  • Provide support and work in collaboration with Health & Safety on the Early and Safe Return to Work Program.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Implement and help guide quality control measures to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality customer service and orders to customers.
  • Ensures all Food Safety policies, procedures and HACCP guidelines are followed.
  • Ensures timely follow-up with all required corrective and preventative actions as needed.
  • Ensure employees complete all Health & Safety, food safety and quality assurance training as required.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Customer Relations, Sales and Transportation to address customer inquiries or concerns related to warehouse operations.
  • Apply lean tools (5 Why’s and SWOT analysis) to understand and resolve problems.
  • Coach, mentor, and motivate the team to ensure performance and drive improved productivity and efficiencies.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and performance management for warehouse team members.
  • Provide assistance in the development and implementation of warehouse policies and procedures to improve safety, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Engage with employees to foster a culture of positive employee relations.
  • Utilize warehouse management systems and other technologies to track inventory, customer orders, and generate reports as required.
  • Support the creation of the budget and strategic plan and help drive the execution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the warehouse team.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of warehouse supervisory experience
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain & Logistics preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems and understanding of inventory control procedures.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, resolve conflicts, and work well with others.
  • Adaptable leadership style to foster employee engagement and teamwork.
  • Ability to build a high preforming team that is built on trust and mutual respect
  • Working knowledge and understanding Lean principles.
  • Highly organized, with proven time management skills to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and relevant software applications.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices for warehouse operations.
  • Project management skills and demonstrated analytical thinking.
  • Comfortable working in a multi-temperature environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible to accommodate work related travel.
  • Class G Driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle for work related travel.
