Every position contributes to the spiritual and social services mission of The Salvation Army Job Title Thrift Store Sales Associate (Casual)

Reports To Store Supervisor, Regional Thrift Store Director

Characteristic Job Duties The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance” Replenishes inventory levels based on Supervisor’s directions Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness) Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc. Receive all donations in a designated area Sort all donated items making sure the good quality items are kept for redistribution Be willing to work in the sorting / cashier area when and if necessary Treat each customer fairly, in a pleasant and professional manner. Keep high standards of cleanliness and efficiency in the sorting and receiving area Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications To have the ability to sustain a daily routine of heavy lifting, reaching and bending. To be willing to adapt to changes and interruptions in your normal work routine The ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to information relating to employment. A willingness to work with individuals or groups of differing backgrounds and cultures other than your own. A willingness to adhere to a dress code of neatness and cleanliness. An understanding of and support for the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required The performance of the job requires frequently standing for long periods of time, pushing and pulling, lifting, kneeling and occasionally twisting, bending, crouching, reaching and reaching overhead and the ability to lift heavy objects.

Concentration Required The performance of the job requires visual monitoring.

Work Environment The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the store or warehouse.

The incumbent will have little to no travel required.

Exposure To Hazards The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:

  • Exposure to toxic chemicals
  • Moving heavy objects
  • Risk of back injuries (throwing back out)

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $15.00 to $17.83 with a maximum of $21.40.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
