Tell me about the job...

As a Data Center Operator, you’ll be on the front lines of daily operations at one of our mission-critical facilities. Your role will involve monitoring systems, executing preventive and corrective maintenance, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and working closely with vendors and clients alike. You’ll report directly to the Data Center Manager and play a key part in ensuring our infrastructure performs reliably and efficiently.

What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Manage facility health and safety, including preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Respond to faults, perform diagnostics, and support root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Monitor and maintain electrical and mechanical systems (BMS/EPMS/BAS).
  • Coordinate vendor activity and supervise on-site work.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance requirements (SSAE 18, ISO, PCI).
  • Participate in change management processes and support documentation efforts.
  • Perform routine infrastructure inspections and support local capacity management.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Track visitors, manage shipments, and follow established security protocols.
  • Install, cable, and rack IT hardware when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in operational areas.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time role: Minimum 40 hours/week (Monday–Friday).
  • Rotating on-call responsibilities (typically 1 week every 3–4 weeks).
  • Occasional evening, weekend, or extended hours may be required.
  • Some roles may include 24x7 shiftwork depending on location.
  • Interaction with customers and vendors is routine.

What experience, certifications, and skills do you need?

Experience

  • 4+ years in a data center, facilities management, or other mission-critical environment.
  • Familiarity with power and mechanical systems.
  • Practical experience with BMS/EPMS/BAS software.
  • Use of ticketing systems and understanding of ITIL practices.*

Education / Certifications

  • Electrical certifications (e.g., Journeyman Electrician, Electrical Engineering Technologist).*
  • Mechanical/HVAC certifications.*
  • CPR and AED certifications.
  • Ability to obtain Reliability Clearance (minimum 5 years of Canadian residency).
  • ASP safety training.*

Competencies

  • Clear and professional communication (written and verbal).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable leading local initiatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint).
  • Physically able to lift up to 55 lbs, work at heights, and climb ladders.

Technical Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of MV/LV power distribution systems, UPS, ATS, generators, automation controls.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, CRAHs, AHUs, pumps, compressors, etc.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and familiar with BMS/EPMS/CMMS tools.
  • Assets, not mandatory.
