The**Privacy & Data Governance Manager (12-month contract)**will support the development and execution of goeasy’s enterprise-wide privacy and data governance programs. This role requires a strong understanding of Canadian privacy laws (e.g., PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25), foundational knowledge of international privacy frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and a growing awareness of AI governance principles. The successful candidate will help shape policies, document workflows, conduct research, and support responsible data and AI practices across goeasy and its subsidiaries.
What will you be doing?
- Privacy Program Management
- Draft, update, and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and standards.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and support privacy-by-design initiatives.
- Document data flows and business processes involving personal information.
- Monitor and interpret changes in Canadian and global privacy laws and regulations.
- Data Governance
- Support the development and maintenance of data governance frameworks, including data classification, data lifecycle management, and metadata standards.
- Collaborate with IT, Security, and business units to ensure data quality, integrity, and stewardship.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of data inventories.
- Promote data accountability and transparency across the organization.
- AI Oversight
- Contribute to the development of internal guidelines for responsible AI use, including fairness, transparency, and accountability.
- Support risk assessments and governance processes for AI-enabled tools and systems.
- Monitor evolving AI regulations and standards, and provide recommendations for compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure AI systems align with privacy and ethical standards.
- Research & Collaboration
- Conduct research on emerging privacy, data governance, and AI trends.
- Provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders on privacy and data-related risks.
- Support audits, assessments, and regulatory inquiries.
- Work closely with Compliance, IT Security, Product, and other teams to embed privacy and governance into business operations.
What experience do you have?
- Minimum 1 year of experience in privacy, data governance, compliance, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian privacy laws; familiarity with international frameworks is an asset.
- Understanding of data governance principles and emerging AI governance concepts.
- Excellent writing, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CIPP/C, CIPM, CDMP, or AI governance-related credentials) are an asset but not required.
- Post-secondary education in law, public policy, information management, data science, or a related field preferred.
