About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide a wide variety of psychological services related to the diagnosis, treatment, assessment and evaluation of youths, including individual and/or group therapy;
• apply complex treatment techniques, including Third Wave Cognitive Behavior Therapies (e.g. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), ACT, CFT);
• supervise all aspects of rehabilitation assessments and therapeutic interventions;
• administer, evaluate and interpret psychological tests, and conduct research and program evaluation projects;
• lead training programs and provide training and education to multi-discipline staff;
• provide senior-level professional expertise and consultation to management and staff on a variety of psychological services.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You are registered in good standing as a Psychologist in autonomous practice in the Province of Ontario.
• You have a Ph.D. in Psychology from a university of recognized standing.
Judgement Skills
• You can exercise sound judgment to determine best approach to enhance the well-being of youths.
• You can use discretion and sensitivity when discussing the diagnosis, treatment and progress of youths.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• You have knowledge of the science and practices of psychology, including psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques to plan, conduct and coordinate psychological services.
• You can apply evidence-based treatment techniques, including Third Wave Cognitive Behavior Therapies, and provide supervision, consultation, and advice on diagnosis and treatment of youths in custody.
• You have knowledge of current rehabilitative and treatment techniques, practices and theories applicable to the youth population.
Communications and Relationship Management Skills
• You can work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to carry out clinical responsibilities, and maintain strong working relationships with staff and community partners.
• You communicate and express specialized technical findings and complex ideas clearly.
• You can use motivational interviewing skills to persuade youths to accept treatment and encourage their acceptance of psychological services in the community.
Program Evaluation and Analytical Skills
• You have knowledge of program evaluation, statistical analysis and research techniques to conduct research and analyze data.
• You can evaluate treatment and rehabilitative activities and/or programs and identify effective solutions.
• You can determine the appropriate diagnostic approaches and provide assessments based on the interpretation of tests, interviews and other methods.
• You can oversee the administration and scoring of psychological tests and write formal assessment reports.
Leadership and Training Skills
• You can lead and develop training sessions.
• You can provide technical expertise, support and guidance to staff of the psychological services clinical team.
