The opportunity:
The University of Manitoba is looking for a Co-op/IIP Coordinator. The position is responsible to facilitate and support students during their professional development from initial admittance to the program, developing the life-long skills to network with employers and job search, and further develop when employed in work term placements within the Co-op/IIP program. This is done by ensuring students are completing the requirements of the program including creating their professional job applications and interacting with employers professionally during work term employment placements. The position reviews and offers constructive feedback to support student success and supports students in obtaining placements. The incumbent’s ability to counsel and advise students and ensure their readiness and professionalism through their job search and work placements is key.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
- Completion of High school or equivalent program of studies in directly related applied office skills plus five years of directly related experience required.
- University degree in a behavioural, social science, human services or business field preferred.
- Five years of directly related experience working in a student support environment required.
- Experience in career development or counselling preferred.
- Experience in resume writing and development preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Excellent organizational skills are required, including planning and tracking multiple task simultaneously while prioritizing deadlines.
- Proficiency in using MS Office programs required.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work is required.
- High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity required.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a customer focused environment with a genuine interest in helping students required.
- A positive attitude and the ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with faculty, support staff, students and the public required.
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team to meet unit goals and objectives.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy environment with regular interruptions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality required.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic, with the ability to work independently.
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's license and use of a vehicle is required.
- Proficiency in the University's student registration system and career website site preferred.
- Working knowledge of various job searching platforms an asset.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
