The Role

We are currently searching for a Senior Accountant reporting to the Supervisor, TBS Accounting. This is a 15-month, full-time contract opportunity. The Senior Accountant is responsible for month-end close, financial reporting, and analyzing complex financial accounts per IFRS and company policies. They will assess business transactions for accounting impacts and system requirements, assist in preparing annual financial statements and note disclosures, and support internal and external audits. This role focuses on lease accounting, fixed assets, intangibles, and related expenses.

Location

Our Corporate Office is located in Bolton, ON. We offer a hybrid work model with visits into the office a minimum of three times per week and on an as-needed basis depending on the role and function.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Perform monthly accounting activities including preparation of recurring, non-recurring and complex journal entries
  • Coordinate with the business to ensure compliance of end-to-end processes and timely resolution of accounting matters providing guidance and advice as required
  • Monitor planned activity and liaise with the business to ensure timely recording of additions, terminations, renewals or changes to fixed assets and leases, as well as related expenses and accruals (e.g. common area maintenance and property tax)
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for leases, fixed assets, intangibles and related accrued liabilities
  • Analyze and identify issues with financial results and document the nature and follow-up activities required for timely resolution
  • Perform root cause analysis independently, recommend improvements and assist with implementation of complex solutions
  • Complete continuity and supporting schedules on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Ensure accuracy of the financial results in accordance with IFRS
  • Prepare monthly lease reporting for major shareholders
  • Review complex business transactions and identify relevant accounting and reporting issues and system requirements
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements including note disclosures
  • Provide analysis and supporting documentation required to satisfy internal and external audit requirements
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned

Who You Are - Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and/or Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation(s) an asset

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with a strong background in fixed asset management and lease accounting
  • Previous experience with SAP is considered an asset

Skills

  • Working knowledge of IFRS
  • Working knowledge of financial statements, able to understand financial analysis
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; advanced Excel skills including the ability to create and manage complex worksheets and pivot tables
  • Experienced in ERP accounting systems such as SAP, Business Warehouse, experience with system implementations an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with employees across all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated, strong analytical, problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to work outside the normal hours during month-end and other peak periods
