The ECT Clinic is currently seeking a casual Registered Nurse to work within the Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) Clinic at the Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention. The Clinic provides ECT to inpatient and outpatient clients. As a member of an inter-professional team in the ECT clinic you will work closely with nurses, psychiatrists and anesthesiologists, and anesthesiologist assistants, to provide safe therapeutic treatment to clients receiving ECT. You will also interact with staff from inpatient and outpatient services and with families/supporters of individuals receiving treatment. You will provide client-centred psychiatric, general nursing assessment, physical assessment and care for individuals recovering from anesthetic. As well, you will be expected to ensure safety and security of the client care environment, and to practice in accordance with CAMH policies and procedures, the College of Nurses Ontario Professional Standards, the Canadian Standards for Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and with the CAMH Practice Model of Care. You will work in the treatment room where ECT is delivered to clients and you will follow clients into the recovery room and provide nursing assessment and intervention. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in clinical supervision; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make physical status and behavioral observations, mental status assessments, monitor the client’s response to ECT Treatment, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of rationale behind ECT treatment, physiological responses to ECT, the pre- and post-anesthesia care of ECT clients, and are able to respond to various clinical situations that may present themselves during treatment. You will successfully complete the ECT training module to obtain certification for the added nursing skill of application of electrodes. Orientation to the service is provided. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at the Queen Street Site.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. You will have two years of nursing experience. Preferred experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Experience within a general hospital or recovery room is an asset as is experience working in an outpatient setting. You will possess excellent assessment skills and an interest in working in a dynamic, fast paced environment. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse- Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem-solving skills are required. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
