Position Summary:
The Router position is an individual contributor role responsible for creating, managing, and calculating delivery routes. Every day, Drivers in our service area (Alberta and adjacent Provinces) are completing multi stop last-mile delivery routes. Drive time, arrival and departure time (service time), breaks and overnight layovers (where applicable) all need to be calculated and adjusted to meet Customer deliver time window expectations while maximizing route efficiency.
The Router role reports to the Transportation Manager and normally works a**Sunday through Thursday shift, 8am-4:30pm.**The Router role works with numerous routing and software systems such as Roadnet and Omnitracs. The Router role requires strong attention to detail and process skills. The Router will interact with drivers, sales, transportation, warehouse and customer service personnel. The Router functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duties assigned to best serve the company.
Position Responsibilities:
- Establish delivery routes which are cost effective and compliant with Transport Canada guidelines while focusing on customer service, quality and satisfaction. Utilize Roadnet application to ensure Delivery costs are held to company expected run rates year over year.
- Establish routing procedures and schedules which allow for the optimum use of personnel and equipment while keeping a strong emphasis on driver safety.
- Perform Roadnet application routing maintenance daily to ensure all locations have accurate, timely, and up-to-date information: Standard Routes and Customer Delivery Requirements, Geo-Coding, delivery days, time windows, service time types, service time overrides, account types, meal beaks, Route start times, pre/post trips, starting/ending depot, travel modes, color for mapping, assigned driver, equipment and DOT road checks, Plan Maintanence equipment with regards to costing, restrictions and capacities.
- Perform and provide costing, off-days, maintenance, scorecard, customer and KPI reporting on scheduled intervals.
- Perform recap of previous days actual routing results; make necessary changes/adjustments to the standard routes, if required.
- Make maps and print driving instructions for drivers that are not familiar with the route assigned.
- Produce driver manifest report and distribute nightly.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience
- 1-3 years distribution, logistics, transportation routing or related work experience.
- Ability to coordinate and multitask
- Works well under pressure
- Detail-oriented
- Pro-active and calm decision making skills in complex environments
- Safety mindset
