Contract Type: Special Project Assignment – Summer Learning Teacher

Assignment Area(s): 4 Week – Indigenous Student – Secondary Full Credit PHE 10/Active Living 11/12 (1 Position)

Effective Date: June 29, 2026, to July 24, 2026, 8:45 – 2:45 (Instructional time is 9:00 – 11:30 Session 1, 12:00 – 2:30 Session 2)

Please Note: The assignment in July may not be identical to the assignment in this posted position. Summer school programs are contingent upon student enrolment. If, on or around June 26, 2026, there are insufficient class numbers for this assignment the course will be cancelled and the teaching contract will be rescinded. Teachers will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement (Article B.29). By accepting this assignment, teachers do not receive experience or earn seniority or aggregate months of service towards conversions to a continuing contract (B status).

**Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience: **

  • extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
  • knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
  • successful experience in teaching prior Summer Learning courses
  • demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of child and adolescent development
  • an exemplary work ethic with a proven ability to show initiative and work as an effective team member
  • a demonstrated understanding of the First People's Principles of Learning
  • knowledge of the community supports, and the services that are available, and how they can expand the learning of students
  • provide regular reporting on student progress and demonstrate proven ability in involving parents as partners
  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Sto:lo culture and heritage
  • willingness to take a leadership role in the development of this program
  • demonstrated ability to work with education partners within the Indigenous community, including but not limited to, First Nation, Metis Association, and community education leaders

knowledge of, and successful experience with, the application of Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment in a summer learning environment

  • demonstrated ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders (First Nations, community, District, school-teams, etc) to integrate academic achievement and Indigenous culture within a positive social, emotional, and educational learning experience
  • demonstrated ability to achieve the outcomes as defined through the various policies linked to the Enhancement Agreements, School Plans, Individual student plans and Strategic Plan to support the achievement of Indigenous students
  • demonstrated knowledge, understanding and practice of Indigenization of Curriculum
  • preference may be given to candidates of Indigenous decent
  • demonstrated ability to recognize individual students' differences and effectively differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the learning needs of all students in a diverse classroom demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom to engage all students
  • demonstrated ability to adapt or modify curriculum for students who are experiencing difficulties
