We are looking to retain our highway maintenance operations footprint in the Peace Region of Alberta in CMAs 501, 502 and 503 and are preparing responses to several RFP tenders announced by the Government of Alberta for this region.
As such, LaPrairie Works is calling for applications to fill the role ofEnvironmental Lead, Highway Maintenance Operations and Infrastructurewith several potential bases within the Peace and Northwest Alberta regions.
LaPrairie Works Inc expects to fill this position should we be selected as the successful proponent.
TheEnvironmental Lead, Highway Maintenance Operations & Infrastructurewill provide Environmental Program support, oversee the operations’ environmental performance, and ensure compliance with contractual and provincial environmental policies and regulations. The Environmental Lead will work in conjunction with the Health and Safety and QA/QC Team Leads and will be required to travel to inspect and audit various LaPrairie Works Inc. facilities and/or work sites within the assigned CMA and in relation to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Responsibilities

Provide professional expertise and guidance in all areas of Environmental management including direction in Environmental program administration, statistical reporting, hazard assessment & controls, incident investigation and related follow up.

Provide Environmental support, advice and direction for line managers and field supervisors.

Work with field operations supervision / management to ensure employee compliance with Environmental policies.
-
Promote an organizational culture where incidents, hazards and opportunities for improvement are reported, discussed, and addressed quickly and efficiently.
-
Carry out risk assessments, prepare Environmental Management and ECO Plans, and provide recommendations on how project risks can be minimized.
-
Maintain and update safe operational procedures (SOPs), to address relevant environmental hazards and controls.
-
Support compliance with the Provincial and Federal Environmental legislation as it applies.
-
Mentor employees and provide guidance, at all levels, on Environmental matters and evolving provisions.
-
Conduct regularly scheduled, site / facility inspections and meetings, draft reports / minutes to track environmental deliverables and related the follow up.
-
Assist the operational team with implementation of environmentally friendly strategies and help develop and support internal processes.
-
Provide and lead in-house training with managers and employees on general Environmental issues, related risks, emergency response protocols and Environmental best practices.
-
Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g., hazardous / controlled substances, noise, containment, and clean-up strategies.
-
Actively participate in the promotion and compliance within LWI’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Assurance System.

Other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
-
Minimum of 5 years relevant environmental training and experience.
-
Registered industry training/certification, NCSO designation, post-secondary environmental education, and/or related professional certifications such as CECAB, or equivalent are considered assets.
-
Suitable experience and/or equivalent knowledge in Environmental practices within the Highway Maintenance, Public Works, and/or Civil Construction industry sectors is preferred.

Able to work effectively with people of all levels including management, employees, contractors and general public.
-
Highly organized with attention to detail.
-
Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to fast-changing situations.
-
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
-
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in an efficient and professional matter.

Proficient in Microsoft basic suite of programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
-
Ability to travel on a regularly scheduled basis throughout the areas of operations.
