Your Opportunity:

Path to Care, within Referral Analytics & Improvement, partners with outpatient specialties using Connect Care referrals to understand and improve referral wait times. The Senior Analyst applies advanced analytics and strong system knowledge to inform decisions for care providers, managers, and operational leaders. The role identifies key issues affecting referral‑based care and develops effective solutions using traditional analysis, data modeling, and emerging approaches. The Senior Analyst helps shift the organization from reacting to issues to proactively anticipating system needs and supports alignment of referral work across programs. The Senior Analyst promotes rigorous, validated analytic practices and builds collaborative relationships with clinical and operational partners to create shared approaches to measurement and evaluation. This includes clinic‑level quality improvement, Wait Time Policy compliance, and organizational, provincial, and national reporting. The role also supports maintenance and enhancement of the scheduling data repository for Access Owl dashboards. The Senior Analyst works with teams across referral, wait list, and wait time management to advance a cohesive, system‑wide, patient-centered approach. They advise site and program leaders to identify improvement opportunities, define analytic requirements, deliver usable analytic products, and clearly communicate results. They may also collaborate with Connect Care and enterprise scheduling teams to ensure alignment with Path to Care’s vision and the Wait Time Policy. The Senior Analyst tailors communication to diverse audiences, explaining complex concepts clearly and accessibly.

Description:

70% Advanced Data Analytics. Develop innovative analytic approaches for complex referral issues, including predictive wait time scheduling, demand forecasting, no‑show prediction, and service ratio optimization. Support ongoing use of Path to Care and Referral Analytics tools (e.g., Access Owl): onboarding, custom configurations, feature development, and inquiry response (tasks may be delegated). Provide routine and ad hoc analysis for reporting requirements. Support organizational reporting changes (e.g., zone-to-corridor transitions). Respond to custom data requests to enable data‑informed decision‑making. Engage external expertise when needed (e.g., data ethics, machine learning). 5% Data Repository Maintenance - Lead major upgrades to the data repository per organizational standards (e.g., transition to Snowflake). - Schedule and monitor data imports, test and troubleshoot after updates (may be delegated). - Maintain access for secondary use as appropriate. - Ensure proper data access, disclosure, and policy compliance. 15% Partner Engagement & Data Implementation Advocacy - Engage clinical and operational partners through presentations, demonstrations, and facilitated sessions (clinical engagement may be delegated). - Consult on major projects aligned with program mandates. - Uphold data protection requirements, disclaimers, and PIAs. - Advocate for integrated referral management systems with analyst peers. 10% Team Data Skill Development - Mentor, coach, and supervise staff on delegated data and analytics tasks. - Build advanced analytics skills across the team and support partner engagement approaches.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a related field (e.g. epidemiology, community health science, biomedical statistics, health economics) from an accredited university or a combination of education and equivalent experience at management’s discretion.

Additional Required Qualifications:

EPIC analyst certification is essential to performance of job duties. Proficiency in Tableau and other visualization tools. Proficiency in English, with excellent communication skills and ability to interact with partners and communicate complex data concepts, methods and findings in approachable language. Demonstrated ability to work with others effectively in teams and mentor and influence others. Comprehensive understanding of health data systems and specifically Connect Care. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio). The ability to become proficient with new software packages. Must abide by the highest standards of confidentiality and have a sound understanding of the principles within Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as the Health Information Act.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applied statistics including experimental design, sampling, descriptive stats, confidence intervals, regression, segmentation, multivariate and longitudinal modelling, and forecasting. Experience with Quality Improvement (AIW, Six Sigma/Lean an asset). Proficient in SAS/SPSS or similar tools. Skilled in big‑data methods (data mining, machine learning) and applying queuing theory in clinical or industry settings.
