Strategic Initiatives Manager
About the role
The Strategic Initiatives Manager provides leadership in health service planning, strategic initiatives and cross-functional coordination to support organizational and portfolio priorities, including initiatives that impact rural and community-based services. This role applies strong business insight to understand health system trends, service delivery models and operational realities. The position supports evidence-based planning through analysis of population needs, system performance and emerging trends to inform decision-making and strategic direction. Using a strategic mindset, the Manager leads and supports the development of long-range plans, service models and planning frameworks that improve access, integration and sustainability of care. This includes identifying gaps, opportunities and innovative approaches to enhance service delivery. Working in a complex and evolving environment, the role manages ambiguity and complexity by bringing structure, clarity and adaptability to planning and execution. The position supports organizational responsiveness to changing priorities, system pressures and emerging opportunities. The role collaborates closely with clinical leaders, operational teams, government and community partners, balancing stakeholders to support alignment, shared understanding and integrated planning. Strong relationship-building and facilitation skills are critical to advancing initiatives and achieving collective outcomes. This position is action oriented, leading and supporting initiatives from planning through execution. Responsibilities include coordinating projects, monitoring progress, removing barriers and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. The role is accountable for driving results and delivering on strategic initiatives that improve care and service delivery across Alberta. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in health administration, business administration, commerce, management or related field. 5+ years of experience in project management, health service planning, strategic planning and organizational development.

They bring a strategic mindset, contributing to long-range planning, service model development and health service planning initiatives. The candidate is action-oriented, with the ability to drive initiatives forward through effective project management and execution. They have a proven ability to generate results by delivering strategic initiatives and achieving measurable outcomes, including leading transformational and change management initiatives. They collaborate effectively, building strong cross-functional relationships and external partnerships to advance shared priorities. They are also able to manage ambiguity and complexity, navigating unclear and evolving system priorities while maintaining focus, adaptability and progress.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MSc Management). Certificate in PMP.
