Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Reports To: Senior Manager, Facilities Maintenance
Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs across multiple automotive dealership facilities within a designated region. The incumbent ensures that all facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.
This role is central to maintaining dealership uptime, supporting service operations, and reducing vendor reliance through proactive maintenance and quick-response repairs.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive & Reactive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled maintenance on facility systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, hoists, and building envelope.
- Respond to service requests promptly, troubleshooting and repairing minor issues to minimize downtime.
- Conduct facility walkthroughs to identify and document deficiencies or hazards.
- Maintain and update preventive maintenance logs for all sites.
Operational Support
- Coordinate with dealership management to schedule work with minimal disruption to operations.
- Support service department infrastructure (shop equipment, compressors, wash bays, waste systems, etc.).
- Install, maintain, and inspect equipment including hoists, pressure washers, air systems, and safety devices.
Vendor & Contractor Liaison
- Work with approved vendors for specialized trades (e.g., electrical, HVAC, roofing) to ensure timely and compliant repairs.
- Verify vendor work completion and quality prior to approval for invoicing.
- Provide input on vendor performance and assist with service call triage.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance work adheres to OHSA, TSSA, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct safety checks on equipment such as hoists, eyewash stations, CO detectors, and emergency lighting.
- Report potential hazards or non-compliance issues immediately.
Administrative Duties
- Utilize the company’s CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to log all work orders, parts used, and time spent.
- Prepare brief site reports after each visit highlighting completed work and any outstanding issues.
- Track inventory of consumables and parts stored on the service vehicle.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of facility maintenance or building technician experience; dealership, industrial, or retail experience preferred.
- Technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Hoist and equipment repair experience is considered a strong asset.
Certifications
- Valid driver’s license with clean abstract (company vehicle provided).
- WHMIS, Fall Protection, and First Aid certification preferred.
- TSSA or equivalent trade tickets (e.g., 313A/B, 442A, 309A) considered an asset.
Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple service calls.
- Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
- Basic computer proficiency for CMMS and email reporting.
Working Conditions
- Regional travel required; typically, 80% field-based.
- Standard hours Monday–Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work for urgent repairs or projects.
- Company service vehicle, tools, and PPE provided.
