Your Opportunity:
Applicants must have completed an accredited perioperative course to work in the operating room. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing perioperative patient care using the nursing process. In accordance with CARNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and CSA Standards of practice. The RN will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and circulating role as an integral part of the surgical team in both the Operating Room and Minor Surgery Clinic. The RN is responsible for providing safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite. The RN promotes the professional role and evaluates their own professional education and clinical practice standards. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The RN will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes. The RN is a patient advocate and provides a link between the unit and the Operating Room and/or Minor Surgery Clinic Unit. The RN draws on a unique body of nursing knowledge.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning- modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of a recognized perioperative program. Recent experience in an OR of equivalent size within the last 5 years. Must be able to wear lead for many hours. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours supporting the surgical team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapidly moving and complex environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex and integrated team. Demonstrates advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgement. Demonstrates communication skills promoting respect and team spirit.
