Canadian Surgery Solution, division of Clearpoint Health Network is Hiring a Nurse Manager, (Day Surgery/Extended Stay/PARR)

No of Position : 1

Position Summary:

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily clinical operation of day surgery, the extended stay unit and post-anesthetic recovery room, including, but not limited to, professional nursing practice and support staff (Physiotherapy).

The Nurse Manager participates in budget planning; implementing and maintaining standards of practice of all regulatory bodies (CRNA, CLPNA, etc.); hiring; supervising and evaluating professional and support staff; terminating, and implementing changes to structure, processes, and procedures in order to achieve improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality of care, and resource utilization.

The Nurse Manager is responsible for understanding the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) standards, CSA standards, and any related legislation or regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Human Resources Management

  • Recruit, onboard, and train PARR and Extended Stay nursing staff.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels based on surgical schedules and hours worked.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching or mentoring, with documentation.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Address staff concerns, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive work environment.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of performance by staff through effective selection and coordination of orientation and continuing education.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to staff regarding performance and takes appropriate corrective action when necessary, up to and including termination.
  • Performs annual performance reviews identifying staff strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Develops staffing models by adhering to CPSA NHSF accreditation standards, Alberta Employment Standards, facility needs, and allocated hours.
  • Ensures that personnel files are maintained in accordance with CPSA NHSF accreditation standards.
  • Monitors patterns of absenteeism.

Clinical Management

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement comprehensive and cohesive plans of care.
  • Ensures policies and procedures reflect facility practice, CPSA standards, CSA standards, and any related legislation or regulations.
  • Participates in the development, review, and revision of facility policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Implements facility policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Ensures that all staff are oriented to facility policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols and educated on any new or revised facility policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols as required.
  • Coordinates the operations, utilization, and quality improvement activities of areas of responsibility.
  • Oversees infection control practices and implements quality improvement initiatives.
  • Presents, monitors, and analyzes surgical outcomes, adverse events, and patient safety indicators.
  • Coordinates with co-workers/peers, surgeons, and anesthesiologists to optimize patient care.
  • Actively participates in the quality assurance program.
  • Actively participates and contributes to management meetings.
  • Assesses trends in workload, acuity, length of stay, and bed utilization to determine staffing patterns.
  • Facilitates staff meetings for areas of responsibility.
  • Submits required reports on time that are comprehensive.
  • Actively participates in the development of future plans and programs.
  • Attends, participates, and contributes to facility-wide staff meetings.
  • Responsible for organizing regular in-services for clinical staff.
  • Ensures that all staff and physician extenders participate in mock emergency drills at least every six months.

Financial Management

  • Demonstrates fiscal accountability in the daily management and use of resources.
  • Collects pertinent data for capital budget projections.
  • Responsible for utilization, maintenance, quality, and quantity of equipment, supplies, and services.
  • Orders and monitors maintenance of equipment and supplies.

Quality Assurance / Risk Management

  • Ensures that all required quality assurance metrics are completed and reviews them monthly.
  • Investigates violations of safety standards and implements corrective measures.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the trial and evaluation of new equipment and supplies.
  • Investigates patient, family, or staff complaints facilitating resolution whenever possible.

Other

  • Acts as a clinical role model and resource to staff by assessing, supervising, and monitoring the provision of patient care.

Qualifications

Education

  • Active/eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
  • Completion of a post-secondary educational institution post-anesthetic program / Equivalent in education and experience.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification. Assest

Professional

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Excellent assessment, organization, communication, and team interaction skills.
  • 2 years of management experience in a supervisory position.
  • Experience in OR management is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid-moving, complex environment.
  • Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team.
  • The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergent situations is essential.
