About the role

True North HR Consulting is currently seeking a Director of Finance & Corporate Services for our client based in the Greater Toronto Area.

Join a leading, accredited Children’s Mental Health organization and multi-service, non-profit community agency, dedicated to supporting young pregnant and parenting women, children, and families. The organization provides a wide range of programs designed to foster empowerment, growth, and independence in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Key programs include a live-in treatment program, supportive transitional housing, an on-site high school program, community housing support and referrals, and maternal-infant mental health services. The agency also operates an early child and family centre and a number of early learning centres, serving families and young children in the broader community.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, working with community partners to deliver holistic, innovative programs that address mental health, educational, and transitional needs.

The Director of Finance & Corporate Services will support the achievement of the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals by providing leadership in finance, information technology, facilities management, and administration. You are responsible for ensuring these functions comply with all legal and fiduciary requirements across the organization. The role emphasizes long-term planning and ensures the implementation of the strategic plan.

Responsibilities for this position include:

Finance & Compliance:

  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and funding requirements
  • Implement internal controls and policies to safeguard assets
  • Manage payroll, investments, audits, and contracts
  • Serve as an ex officio member of the Finance and Audit Committee

Administration & HR:

  • Lead administrative staff and streamline processes for efficiency
  • Maintain records, contracts, and procurement operations
  • Collaborate with HR to implement policies and ensure compliance with labour legislation and collective agreements
  • Act as Privacy Officer

Information Technology:

  • Lead IT operations, including infrastructure, software, security, and vendor management
  • Develop IT policies, plans, and staff training

Facilities & Maintenance:

  • Oversee facility operations, space planning, safety, and compliance with codes and regulations
  • Manage vendors, procurement, and budget adherence

Agency Development & Leadership:

  • Contribute to agency-wide policy development and program planning
  • Represent the Centre to external stakeholders, funders, and government agencies
  • Hire, train, and supervise Finance and Corporate Services staff, conducting performance reviews and fostering professional growth
  • Participate as a member of the senior management team

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • University degree in finance, business administration, or a related field
  • A CPA designation is required
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior finance managerial or similar role, including at least 3 years with a non-profit organization and people leadership, in the development, monitoring and reporting on the financial status of the organization and programs
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting procedures and protocols, budget administration and financial forecasting, analysis and reporting
  • Knowledge of current federal and provincial legislation affecting charities and charitable status, including CRA regulations in Canada
  • Demonstrated expertise in facilities management and IT
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights
  • Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and a commitment to confidentiality
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and effective people management capabilities; supportive of team development through coaching, mentoring, and creating growth opportunities
  • Self-motivated and possessing a strong work ethic, with a commitment to professional growth
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines
  • Committed to continuous improvement through the implementation of effective systems and processes

  • Ability to see the “big picture” and align financial management with organizational goals
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills to interpret financial data and propose solutions
  • Commitment to accuracy and precision in financial reporting and analysis
  • Ability to convey complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada under applicable provincial or territorial laws and regulations

The following would be considered assets:

  • Courses or certificates in executive leadership, women's/feminist studies and financial management
  • Knowledge or experience working with marginalized pregnant or parenting youth

Working conditions:

  • Interact with clients, staff, visitors, and government agencies/personnel.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use the computer and peripherals
  • Intermittent physical activity, including walking, standing, sitting and lifting
  • Overtime as required
