Your Opportunity:
Based on space availability, the successful applicant may have the option to work from either our Ponoka or Red Deer office and is eligible for a remote hybrid agreement after a period of orientation. The VODP and VRAAM programs practice with a harm reduction approach to individuals seeking counselling, medical care, or other therapeutic interventions for substance use and addiction issues. As a RPN you will be working with an interdisciplinary team with a focus on Indigenous Adult and Indigenous Youth Clients. You will act as an extension of the physician and provide direct patient care through virtual technology platforms. This position provides quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as maintaining positive relationships with community and provincial stakeholders. You will support clients with the initiation and ongoing treatment of OAT Medications and provide case management for clients that includes follow up, treatment, counselling and referrals. Assist patients with community resource linkages such as Addiction Counsellors, Mental Health follow-up, and transition to community care. Ongoing consultation with community pharmacies and monitoring of client medication dosing. The successful candidate will have the ability to work within a team environment as well as being able to function with minimal supervision.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Psychiatric Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(a)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Excellent knowledge of addictions and mental illness. Knowledge of Suboxone/buprenorphine, Methadone, Naltrexone, etc. Experience working with Indigenous populations with complex health needs, system barriers, and intergenerational and complex trauma. Knowledge of resources specific to Indigenous populations. Ability to perform Restricted Psychosocial Interventions, Advanced computer literacy. Above average keyboarding skills and proficient with computer programs – Outlook, MS Office, MS Teams, Connect Care, etc.
