About the job
In this role, you will:
- ensure the safety and quality of Ontario's transportation infrastructure;
- plan, direct and administer multi concurrent contracts focussing on the maintenance of bridges and culverts, and may also include other transportation related services such as buildings, signs, pavement markings, vegetation management and winter and summer maintenance of roads;
- ensure all work is completed according to contract documents and specifications;
provide recommendations on annual and multi-year business plans;
- verify appropriateness of the contractors' plans for maintenance and/or repair operations on transportation facilities and associated equipment;
- forecast and monitor budgets and manage deployment of funds to contracts and projects;
- provide supervision and leadership to staff
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
- the successful candidate must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License.
Technical Knowledge:
- extensive knowledge of the practices, equipment and materials related to the inspection, maintenance and repair of roads, highways, bridges, buildings, pavement marking, electrical components, communication systems, signs and roadside vegetation;
- demonstrated knowledge of contract administration, procurement and related reporting requirements;
- you can prepare detailed cost estimates for proposed work;
- demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract plans, documents and specifications;
- you can interpret and apply related legislation, quality standards, policies and contract language to ensure compliance for worksite safety and the safety of the travelling public.
Essential Skills:
- well developed written and oral communication skills to deal effectively with senior management, contractors and the public;
- well developed interpersonal and negotiation skills to make recommendations and to reach agreement with contractors and other service providers;
- strong analytical, problem solving, coordination, planning and leadership skills to direct and coordinate the activities of contractors;
- proficiency using various software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database and email.
