About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to hire a Logistics Professional, reporting to the Logistics (Cost, Customs and Claims) Manager. The primary responsibility is to be the main point of contact for customs operations by monitoring all imports to Canada and export shipments from Canada. Additional responsibility includes freight invoice processing daily. The incumbent is responsible for meeting the requirements of regulatory agencies relating to international trade and all matters relating to customs, including release and accounting requirements, free trade agreement requirements and other specified government agencies.
What you’re responsible for:
- Review and maintain HS classification codes in system to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Manage operational execution of Free trade agreement (FTA), CPTPP and certificate of origin and follow up with various points of origin or acquire from system
- Determination of tariff treatment based on documents and provide tariff opinion to Logistics Manager or Senior team member for approval
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customs-related inquiries, handling general inquiries professionally (internally and externally) over the phone, in person, or through email
- Supports the Canadian business units by providing documentation and information requirements to facilitate import and export movements
- Prepare and maintain customs reporting and customs dashboard for internal visibility and compliance monitoring
- Assist with any duty recoverable follow up and reporting as required
- Maintain and update SOP standard operating procedures related to customs and trade compliance
- Support trade compliance governance, including: CBSA regulatory requirements; B2 adjustments; with hands-on use of the CBSA CARM Portal to support compliance, reporting, and ongoing trade program initiatives
- Creation of customs documentation (Commercial Invoice, B13, Packing List)
- Liaise with internal and external team on customs support such as but not limited to: documentation, clearance delay, HS code maintenance, customs exam, etc.
- Identify process gaps, compliance risks, and improvement opportunities, providing recommendations to management team
- Assist the Logistics Manager or Senior team member with any special customs project as required
- Download, validate, and provide invoice data from system and provide to 3PL daily
- Record retention filing system and maintenance of documents
- Any other duties as required or requested will be assigned
To join our team
- Minimum 3 - 5 years customs brokerage or customs compliance role and Importation expertise, inclusive of International Incoterms / Trade Agreements / Global supply realization
- CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) designation required
- Logistics designations / Professional Accreditation (CCLP, P.Log., etc.) preferred
- International Incoterms / Trade Agreements expertise (CUSMA, etc) preferred
- Experience in Logistics Cost Management inclusive of invoice verification process, Tariff master creation and maintenance.
- Customs compliance with special advocacy on tariffs such as HS classification, Tariff treatment, duty, and regulatory interpretation in support of compliance decisions
- Comprehensive MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) suite
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian Importation Law and customs regulations
- Solid understanding of Customs management and trade compliance principles
- In-depth knowledge of Tariff structures and HS classification methodologies
- Experience with Risk / Control management of spend across multiple Logistics cost points
The salary for this role is $68K to $72K, with a yearly eligible 8% bonus. Your final compensation will reflect your years of experience and beyond the numbers, we’re proud to offer a holistic package that includes:
