About the role

About Us

AlleyCorp Nord is a boutique consultancy building at the intersection of AI and healthcare. We solve challenging human problems by applying cutting-edge technology and domain understanding.

About the role

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team.

As a Data Engineer, you will design and maintain robust data infrastructure that enables advanced analytics, ML applications, and mission-critical product workflows. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, product leaders, and executives to ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability of the data systems powering our client projects.

Your work will directly support high-impact initiatives across healthcare, biotech, and other data-intensive domains.

This role is targeting a Senior level.

What You'll Own Day to Day

  • Conceptualize, implement, and maintain optimal data pipeline architectures for a given set of requirements.
  • Build infrastructure for the extraction, transformation, and loading of data from diverse sources using SQL, APIs, and AWS/GCP technologies.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements such as automating data gathering, optimizing data delivery, or redesigning infrastructure for scalability.
  • Build or deploy third-party tools to monitor data pipeline health.
  • Work with stakeholders—including Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams—to resolve data-related technical issues and support infrastructure needs.
  • Depending on the project, assess how to implement and secure national boundaries across multiple data centers or cloud regions.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics experts to improve functionality and performance of our data systems.
  • Adhere to and contribute to AlleyCorp Nord's quality guidelines as they relate to data engineering.
  • Deploy software tools, processes, metrics, and documentation relevant to data infrastructure.
  • Maintain high standards of communication with colleagues, both in-office and online.
  • Participate in meetings, including routine team activities and customer discovery sessions.
  • Maintain familiarity with core company technology platforms as well as relevant standards and best practices.
  • Perform other services as mutually agreed upon from time to time.

The Ideal Profile

  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering or backend engineering with a strong data focus.
  • Strong experience with modern data warehousing, ETL/ELT design, and cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, database architecture, data modeling, and data governance.
  • Experience building scalable data pipelines using SQL, Python, Airflow, DBT, or similar workflow tooling.
  • Familiarity with containerization, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, including compliance considerations (e.g., HIPAA, SOC-2) is a plus.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (an asset, not a requirement).
  • Experience in client-facing or consulting environments.

About You

  • You are proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable taking ownership of new challenges.
  • You're a strong communicator who can clearly explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You thrive in fast-changing environments and can pivot quickly as project needs evolve.
  • You are dynamic, adaptable, and eager to contribute your expertise within a collaborative team environment.
  • You think creatively and approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset.

All of job postings describe a bit of a unicorn. If you're kind of a "narwhal," please apply anyway. You don't need to meet all the requirements, let alone the bonus criteria. While experience and skill sets are valuable, growth potential and attitudes are equally important. We are usually flexible on levels or can advise you when a more relevant posting opens.

About AlleyCorp Nord

Software Development
11-50

We help early- and growth-stage startup founders derisk their tech development so they can launch faster, grow smarter, and achieve their vision. Dream big. We'll handle the tech.

We are the technology arm of venture capital studio AlleyCorp, founded by Kevin Ryan, and we’ve helped more than a dozen brilliant entrepreneurs build and launch products, and supported many more, in a variety of fields from healthcare to robotics to emerging tech.

One of the largest pain points for early-stage companies is finding great engineering, design and data talent. While it takes many startups and venture funds months to hire engineers, we are able to deploy superior technical talent immediately. Our team of technologists spans web and mobile development, product design, cloud infrastructure, data science, and engineering. Our Montreal office specializes in productizing research, with an emphasis on machine learning.

We’re excited to talk about your idea whether you’re a single founder with an idea, a small team with an MVP, or anything in between. We work with early- and growth-stage startups (pre-seed to Series C) to provide tech infrastructure—in every sense of the word—that will make their product development a success from day one.

  • We provide guidance on product strategy, machine learning, design, and more.
  • We help build cohesive foundational engineering teams, and offer fractional C-level services.
