Our challenge

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect with strong expertise in the banking domain to design, govern, and optimize enterprise-wide data architecture initiatives. The ideal candidate will play a key role in defining data models, building scalable data platforms, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling high-quality data solutions that support business intelligence, analytics, digital banking, risk management, and regulatory reporting. The candidate should have deep knowledge of banking data domains such as customer, accounts, loans, payments, transactions, treasury, risk, compliance, and finance, along with strong technical expertise in modern data architecture, cloud platforms, data governance, and integration patterns.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Toronto, ON is CAD $120K - CAD $140K/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities: Define and maintain the enterprise data architecture roadmap aligned with banking business objectives and IT strategy. Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models for banking applications and enterprise data platforms. Build scalable architecture for data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, master data management, and real-time data platforms. Establish and enforce data standards, governance policies, data quality rules, metadata management, and lineage frameworks. Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, solution architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into data architecture solutions.

Customer Information Deposits & Accounts Loans & Mortgages Payments & Cards AML / KYC Risk & Compliance Treasury & Finance Regulatory Reporting

Requirements

10+ years of experience designing enterprise data architectures and platforms at scale, with substantial exposure to capital markets environments and trading technology ecosystems. Deep knowledge of the capital markets trade lifecycle and how data requirements flow through execution, clearing, settlement, and risk management processes. Deep, hands-on expertise with Databricks, including SQL analytics, Delta Lake, Lakehouse architectures, and OLTP capabilities. Strong experience with Snowflake, including warehouse design, multi-cluster configurations, and data sharing patterns. Broad, hands-on familiarity with multiple database technologies—relational, NoSQL, time-series, streaming, and specialized trading data platforms—with the ability to evaluate their strengths, limitations, and integration patterns Understanding of how different database technologies integrate with computing platforms and programming languages, with the ability to assess alignment between technology choices across a complex stack Proven experience designing and implementing data catalog solutions; familiarity with Collibra and evaluation of other data catalog platforms. Deep understanding of data lineage architecture, implementation approaches, and integration with governance workflows. Demonstrated experience defining and operationalizing data products, including product frameworks, ownership models, and consumption patterns. Strong understanding of data hubs and their role in orchestrating data products and enabling cross-platform data ecosystems. Proven experience designing semantic layers and their application in BI reporting and self-service analytics environments. Experience architecting data federation and multi-source integration patterns, including catalog federation approaches. Strong experience in tool evaluation and selection for data technologies through proof-of-concept and assessment processes; ability to research, evaluate, and assess emerging technologies and tools against organizational requirements and architectural principles. Experience analyzing and consolidating technology portfolios, identifying redundancies, and establishing technology standards across large organizations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences and document complex architectural decisions clearly. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional environments with both business stakeholders and technical architecture teams.

Preferred skills

Hands-on experience implementing Collibra or other enterprise data catalog solutions in large organizations. Experience with GenAI data consumption patterns and LLM-driven analytics platforms. Familiarity with data mesh and federated governance models aligned with data product thinking. Knowledge of data quality frameworks and automated governance enforcement across heterogeneous platforms. Experience with data lineage solutions beyond basic tool capabilities; proficiency in custom lineage implementations. Familiarity with technology stack, regulatory environment, or capital markets infrastructure. Background in data federation and catalog federation approaches across heterogeneous environments. Experience mentoring or leading distributed architecture teams. Knowledge of financial services data governance and compliance requirements. Exposure to advanced Databricks capabilities such as UC (Unity Catalog) and cross-workspace governance.
