About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Lead, Human Health, the Coordinator, Regional Surface Water Monitoring is responsible for executing EVR's regional surface water monitoring program; supporting regulatory compliance with regional and local permits; and ensuring valley-wide surface water data quality and integrity. Key functions of this role include coordinating and supporting internal and external water quality reporting, and maintaining procedures for the collection, management, and analysis of surface water data.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who can build positive relationships and demonstrate integrity, collaboration, and environmental leadership.
The position requires a broad base of scientific knowledge and technical skills; environmental project management experience; a broad understanding of environmental risks associated with EVR's coal operations; and experience with and an understanding of regulatory and compliance aspects applicable to the mining industry in BC. This position will require some field work.
This is an exciting opportunity to advance the objectives of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan and participate in the collection and interpretation of surface water monitoring data to understand environmental, legal, and compliance risks, and to inform planning and management actions.

In this role you will:
- Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies.
- Execute the regional surface water monitoring program in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Coordinate and provide content for quarterly and annual water quality reports to meet regulatory requirements and other commitments
- Present technical water quality, compliance, and risk information to a variety of audiences
- Collaborate with various disciplines and departments, including water compliance teams at EVR's coal operations, to provide surface water monitoring and regulatory compliance technical support
- Develop and update standard operating procedures and guidance documents for surface water data collection and management
- Identify and lead the implementation of improvements to data management processes to ensure the surface water dataset is of the highest quality
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in Environmental Science or similar subject area
- Minimum three years’ experience in the field of environmental compliance or water monitoring specific to mining
- Technical knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices related to water monitoring
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity for practical problem solving
- Ability to work productively as a team member but also independently with nominal supervision
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Ability to influence and coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite® and EQUIS. Experience with PowerBI and advanced skills in Excel are an asset
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
