We are currently seeking an experienced permanent, part-time LPN to join our team based out of our Health Clinic at 13930 74 Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the Director, Healthcare Services.

Opportunity

The Licensed Practical Nurse in the Family Health Centre is responsible for providing assistance to the physicians as required, and carrying out practical nurse competencies under supervision of the physicians. Obtains vital signs, determines health concerns/reason for visit and performs nursing procedures and provides treatments within the scope of Licensed Practical Nurse. Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, preparing examination rooms, assisting patients, performing procedures within their scope of practice, sterilizing instruments, administering medications and injections, in accordance with established procedures, legislative standards and under direction of the attending physician monitoring and ordering medical supplies. The Licensed Practical Nurse provides health information and instructions for self care to Patient and Family. Additionally the Licensed Practical Nurse answers telephone inquiries, schedules appointments, maintains paper and electronic records, inputs test results to Physician task list, verifies billings and responds to requests from third parties (WCB, and lawyers).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Take phone calls, perform phone triages, and make bookings on the EMR.
  • Strong understanding of MedAccess EMR/Netcare.
  • Book referral/appointments for patients as required.
  • Stock the room with supplies, maintain it clean and organized. Order supplies if needed.
  • Prep of RX/Med update as needed
  • Administration of Vaccine and ear syringe flush
  • Treatment procedures
  • Understand and follows all Acts, Regulations, Standards, policies, directives, procedures, rules, regulations and acts pertaining to the Family Health Centre and St. Michael’s HealthCare Services.
  • Provide Person Centered Care and Services to Patients, Families and other Staff.
  • Recommend and assists in developing procedures for the Family Health Centre as may be required.
  • Participate in departmental meetings as required.

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of a recognized School of Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • A graduate of ‘Administration of Oral Medications’ course and at least six months recent experience in administering oral medications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Actively registered with the C.L.P.N.A.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as an LPN, in a clinic environment preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • An ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in the English language is required.
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
