About the Position

The Simulation Specialist has a complex and vital role within Simulation Hub. The Simulation Specialist works within Simulation Hub supporting related programs within the Centre for Health & Wellness. The main objective of this position is to provide a leading-edge simulation environment along with applied clinical experience for the training of students and health care providers. The Simulation Specialist needs to be knowledgeable and have current acute care clinical experience in beginner, intermediate, and senior nursing skills. The Simulation Specialist requires excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills along with the ability to be self-motivated and flexible.

Position Details

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure reliable and consistent coverage of the Simulation Hub environment at all times to support instructor and educational needs.

  • Support and assist instructors within the Simulation Hub environment as needs arise.

  • Collaborate with pertinent programs and users of the Simulation Hub environment to ensure required supplies, equipment, manpower, and other needs are met for educational purposes.

  • Use of effective and open communication with those individuals or groups accessing the Simulation Hub environment.

  • Assist in the operation, control, and maintenance of the Simulation Hub environment and equipment, including hi-fidelity.

  • Ensure ongoing inventory of supplies and equipment with complete inventory count at the end of the academic year, both in the nursing labs and hi-fidelity.

  • Routine monitoring of equipment to ensure safe use and maintenance requirements are met and report concerns in a timely manner.

  • Order supplies/equipment required for Simulation Hub from external organizations/vendors.

  • Collaborate with external organizations (laundry, sharps removal, etc.) when required

  • The hi-fidelity Simulation Specialist will update all manuals/binders as required (i.e. policy binders, OH & S, etc.)

  • Ensure consistent collaboration, support, and open communication (face-to-face, e-mail, written, meetings, etc.) within the Simulation Hub team, Coordinator, and Associate Dean.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Simulation Hub systems/processes and programs within the Centre for Health and Wellness.

  • Experience working in simulation environments (academic or hospital based).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills.

  • Positive team oriented and collaborative skills.

  • Ability to adapt and change in a diverse complex simulation environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deal with competing or changing priorities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, simulation environment.

  • Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks requiring well-developed skills in the areas of interpersonal, verbal and written communications, assessment and analysis, critical thinking and problem solving.

  • Active good standing registration with College of Licensed Practical Nurses (CLPNA) or the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

  • Minimum 1-2 years of active acute clinical experience.

  • Exceptional time management, organization, planning, communication, and priority-setting skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement is required.

  • Proficient with computer technology and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Flexibility to work within a variety of areas, both independently and in a team environment.

  • Proficient at adapting to rapidly changing work conditions with competing interests.

  • Demonstrates a consistent history of respectful, professional, and collaborative engagement with colleagues and teams, with a clear commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Simulation Hub systems/processes and programs within the Centre for Health and Wellness.

  • Strong understanding and experience working in simulation environments (academic and hospital based).

Salary

AUPE Class Level 10 Step 1, $29.28 per hour
