Title: Specialist, International Emergency Response Unit

Employee Working Location: Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Canada)

Employment Status: Temporary Full-time (12 months)

In this role you will:

  • Support or contribute towards the successful implementation of our international Emergency Response Unit operations and health service activities by supporting internal coordination, field assessment processes, situational awareness, communication, and service delivery in collaboration with Movement partners and the Ministry of Health.
  • Support the implementation of specialized ERU-related programs, services, and initiatives that align with IFRC standards, CRC operational objectives, and international best practices for emergency response.
  • Support operational and program planning through the assessment and analysis of health needs in affected areas, the identification of gaps in existing national and ERU capacities, and by working with stakeholders to identify opportunities for engagement, reinforcement, and/or advocacy.
  • Represent and speak to their area of expertise in presentations and briefings to stakeholders, and in operational or programmatic discussions related to the ERU deployment.
  • Share specialized technical knowledge and provide practical support to ERU colleagues, to strengthen collective understanding and effective delivery of services.
  • Produce quality materials, resources, and operational support documents to further internal and external understanding of the ERU service line, approach, methodology, and operational model.
  • Support quality assurance, compliance, and risk-management efforts within ERU service delivery, ensuring alignment with IFRC emergency response standards, CRC policies, and host-country requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of current practices, trends, and innovations in international emergency health response and identify opportunities to integrate emerging knowledge into ERU program design, planning, and delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to established ERU processes and procedures, proactively identifying opportunities for enhancement and escalating systemic challenges as needed.
  • Contribute to operational and service-line planning, analysis, and reporting to support continuous improvement, accountability, and informed decision-making throughout the deployment.

What we look for:

  • Qualifications include a minimum of 4-7 years experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in social services, psychology, emergency management, public administration, human services, social work, community or health studies and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience . May require technical certifications or professional designations.
  • Experience applying community engagement principles, participatory approaches, and culturally safe practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint is required.
  • Ability to identify, investigate and analyze problems, identify root causes and risks, and apply technical, functional and organizational knowledge to develop solutions.
  • Communication skills, diplomacy and empathy to interpret information and deliver advice, clarify client or stakeholder needs, offer solutions, and resolve escalations in new or somewhat sensitive situations.
  • Ability to research, gathering information from credible sources, conducting literature reviews, and summarizing findings.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, including Indigenous, rural, and underserved populations.
  • Experience supporting program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation methods, including collecting and analyzing data to assess program impact.
