Job Description As a key contributor within the Innovation group, you will work as part of a development team that designs and builds innovative products for data collection, analysis, control and reporting solutions. This is a Full-Stack developer position with strong focus on Backend technologies. Duties include creating and evolving a world-class software development environment, guiding design decisions, conducting code reviews, fostering the technical growth of the software team and maintaining quality documentation.

This role requires close collaboration with technical project managers, product owners, UX/UI developers, testers, control systems integrators and end users to develop robust products. You will work individually or as part of a team.

General Responsibilities:

  • Perform software development including gathering user requirements, software design, programming, testing, and release. These can be mechatronics products requiring real-time controls, configuration and diagnostic tools, simulation software and tight integration with robotic assembly lines.
  • Contribute to major software release plans that align with the technology roadmap
  • Collaborate with mechatronics designers, hardware designers and operations personnel to ensure the complete solution meets performance, reliability, and cost requirements
  • Lead complex software development technical challenges and demonstrate leadership to mentor management, customers, and peers
  • Assist the project team to identify critical path and dependencies between project activities
  • Develop and execute tests to verify behavior and performance with a good understanding of TDD
  • Generation of software related product documentation
  • Perform specialized training for advanced users leveraging new software features
  • Perform reviews of concepts, designs and code, and provide constructive feedback
  • Contribute to software design standards and overall software quality
  • Maintain the technology stack for assigned software products
  • Acquire broad product knowledge to be able to collaborate directly with internal and external stakeholders to solve problems and use the products effectively
  • Demonstrate a CI mindset and have a clear understanding of the standard paractices within the department

Additional Responsibilities as Software Developer:

  • Project accountability including timeline and technical deliverables
  • Demonstrates ownership through concept, design, coding, testing and tier 3 support
  • Consistently write code that is easily testable, easily understood by other developers, and accounts for edge cases and errors
  • Understand organization's business and products strategy
  • Ability to contribute to internal or external stakeholder interactions related to software or mechatronics
  • Ensure that tasks are appropriately sized for continuous integration and incremental delivery with help from teammates and Staff Software Developer
  • Handle risk, change, and uncertainty within their personal scope of work effectively
  • General training, and guidance of all team members that are part of his/her team
  • Responsible for complying with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to ensure software adheres to established standards and is consistent with other products

Business Ethics:

  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures

Qualifications Education: A post-secondary engineering or computer science degree, diploma or equivalent with emphasis on software design and development.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience with full stack web technologies
  • 2+ years of experience with relational and non-relational databases
  • Proven track record in end to end software development
  • Familiar with full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Strong Software understanding in C#/C++ and .NET
  • Familiar with JavaScript, React and modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Strong exposure and experience with cloud based development and deployment
  • Strong awareness of software technologies, established coding principles and all software developer competencies
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and containerized applications
  • Hands-on experience deploying solutions using Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Strong awareness and interest in application of AI/ML in the industrial space
  • Strong exposure to responsive UX/UI design principles, ensuring seamless experiences across devices and browsers
  • Skilled at developing clean code that is efficient, elegant, robust and maintainable
  • Strong statistical analysis skills
  • Familiar with issue-tracking, revision-control and ALM software
  • Experienced in developing and improving Agile development practices
  • Strong understanding of SOLID principles for software development is an asset
  • Ability to get to root cause of customer problems and deliver innovative software that solves them
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

In addition, the following is considered not necessary but beneficial:

  • Understanding of automation mechanical, electrical and control systems
  • Experience with real time controls and/or PLCs is an asset
  • Understanding and experience with OPC and industrial networks
