About the role

Under the direction of the Manager, Payroll and Benefits, the incumbent provides professional benefits advice. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating benefits plans and spending accounts with vendors, investigating and resolving claims discrepancies, providing timely customer service to University employees on benefits matters, preparing and analyzing information for collective bargaining, and administrating benefits.

ILLUSTRATIVE****EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Meet with new employees to review benefits package and assist with their benefits selections.

  • Coordinate and provide timely confidential advice and guidance to employees regarding benefits, retirement, pension, and related matters.

  • Maintain benefits component of the HR / payroll information system software. Process employee benefits and status changes on internal and carrier records. Communicate changes to employees and Payroll department.

  • Ensure systems are established and followed to meet requirements as set by government agencies, collective agreements, and benefit carriers.

  • Maintain self-insured benefits for employees on leave. • Liaise with benefits providers, insurance carriers, and other agencies regarding assessing and challenging questionable claims, claim processing problems,

Experience, competencies & qualifications

REQUIREDTRAININGAND****EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree with courses in accounting and benefits administration, human resources, and/or payroll

  • Completion of accounting or benefits designations is an asset

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in benefits, human resources and/or payroll administration for a large multi-union environment.

The typical salary range for this role falls between $74,168 – $98,891per annum, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity, with future opportunities for performance-based pay and career progression.
